Overview

About

This bantam-weight state park makes up for what it lacks in size with a badass nature immersion up along the border of Canada. Visitors to Franz Jevne State Park are rewarded for their trek with ultimate seclusion in this already-remote spot across the Rainy River from Ontario, surrounded by rich green pine forests that seem too enchanted to be real.

Named for the lawyer who owned the property, the land was donated by the Jevne sons, who requested that the park be named for their father. We’ll be forever in their debt, because this place rules! 2.5 billion year old rock outcroppings tower above the park, providing a great spot for wild blueberry picking or a mid-hike picnic. Many Minnesotans come here to forage for mushrooms, and the rustic hike-in campsites feature quaint Adirondack-style picnic shelters. Plan your trip now, thank us (and upload your sweet pics) later!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Franz Jevne State Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is in full bloom. Fall also offers a spectacular display of colors, making September a picturesque time for a visit. Winter can be harsh, and spring may bring flooding, so plan accordingly for the best experience.
