The barn was built in 1898 and the house in 1899 by 2 Olmstead brothers. The property has had orchard for much of it's homestead history, growing peaches, cherries and apples. There was cattle on the property at some point as well. We bought the farmhouse and 40 acres in 2017, from the 5th generation of Olmsteads to have lived here. The house had been left empty and in extreme disrepair. The property had been leased for the previous 12 years by a local apple producer.
We have spent the last 2.5 years rehabbing and renovating the farmhouse, intent to bring it back to as much of it's original beauty as possible, with some modern updates, as there was originally no electricity or indoor plumbing and what was put in, was make-shift, to say the least. We have largely let the land have time to heal and renew. We brought with us

We have largely let the land have time to heal and renew. We brought with us our goats, who cleared much overgrowth around the big barn and cottage. Our goal is sustainability through non-chemical practices, that build and enhance biodiversity of ecosystems. We have had goats and chickens for 8 years. They are protected by our Livestock Guardians; We have added ducks and plan to add sheep in the Spring of 2021, as well as cattle soon after. There are many things planned for Hibernian Farm, including our first year of organically grown apple sales & U-Pick and a farm market store in 2021. Keep an eye out and follow our Hibernian Farm facebook page.
