History buffs unite and gather ye kinsfolk for a playacting adventure on the shores of Lake Superior. Fort Wilkins State Park is home to an 1844 military outpost and one of the lake’s first lighthouses. Today, costumed interpreters man the fort and invite you to play along. Kids and adults will get a taste of life in the 19th century before heading to the full-service campground for swimming, hiking, and marshmallow toasting. For a side of history with your vacation, you can’t beat Fort Wilkins, on the shores of the world’s largest freshwater lake.
