With Lake Erie to the south, Lake Huron to the north, and hundreds of small lakes scattered to the west, you'll have no problem finding a fun activity to jump into just outside of Detroit. Right on the outskirts of town you'll find several different organic farms with secluded areas to set up camp for the night. If you travel further out, many of the state parks in the area have rustic cabins and yurts available. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area is just one of many top destinations for city dwellers to get out there and explore the great outdoors. If you're a horseback rider or a mountain biker, get ready to traverse over 10 miles of trails. Or hop on over to Sterling State Park, Michigan's only state park on Lake Erie. Enjoy lakeside activities like swimming and suntanning on sandy beaches. Anglers can cruise Lake Erie and find plenty of opportunities to reel in a big fish. And if you're exploring Michigan in the winter time, you'll have no shortage of snowshoeing or cross-country skiing options at Algonac State Park. So pack your bags and get ready to experience pure Michigan fun.
