Now a tiny dirt road, with ultimate privacy, Stone Hill was once a bustling 'highway' for folks traveling by horse and carriage as early as the 1700's and before then the lush valley was a thriving home for the Abenaki Tribe. This land is a gorgeous example of Maine's pristine nature and is full of native plants, fungi, and animals that we share the space with! The cabin is a cute little space made from recycled materials, creative building skills, and a whole lot of love. Nothing fancy by any means, just a fun spot to hide away with loved ones! We celebrate the simple things in life here. It's perfect for couples, small families, or upto 4 guests in 2 beds. Take a walk out the door into the woods, play down by the stream- have a campfire- or spend the day with your nose in a good book. The loft is fully stocked with paints and brushes if you're feeling the flow! It's just a great place to let go, and relax! The sky is intense- the owls are loud, and there is plenty to do within a short drive incase ya get cabin fever and want to get back into the world for some fun! Make sure to save some time to take a paddle on the canoe, kayaks, or paddleboard that we leave down at a nearby pond for you! As fellow travelers, We have been blessed to have stayed in some cool places in our adventures- and now it's our chance to share our little slice of nature paradise with others! We just want everyone to feel safe, and welcome, and free to be themselves! Thanks so much for supporting our adventures, by joining us for your own!!! 2 bedroom rustic Cabin in the woods, with kitchen, outhouse, and lots of privacy! Down a 1/4 mile bumpy dirt road, you will find our little cabin in the woods of midcoast Maine in the town of Palermo. Built by artists, this ‘upcycled’ cabin Offers 2 bedrooms, and welcomes upto 4 guests. Hang out in the bonus yoga/art loft, and enjoy a small lightly stocked kitchen with sitting area. The First floor bedroom has a king size bed, lots of natural light, and entry to a little porch overlooking the forest. Make sure to sit out with a cup of coffee in the morning- or late at night to watch the stars and listen to owls, coyotes, and all the music of the woods! Enjoy exploring the 4 acres, or a nice day hike at one of the nearby local trails. The guest bedroom is located up a ladder-like staircase and has a comfy queen size bed. The cabin does not have plumbing, but does have power and a/c in the summer/heat in the cold months.      If you're looking to find magic in Nature, and a relaxing spot to hang after exploring the midcoast area, this spot is for you!  Comfy beds, and simple quarters. Spend your time making memories! Simple, quirky, and what we lack in modern amenities, we make up for with color, nature, and little comforts that bring you closer to the experience. The Composting outhouse is a short walk from the cabin (we also provide an optional indoor porta John located in the mud room). The cabin sits on top of a hill, overlooking the forest, with an adorable little porch off the main bedroom! We welcome well behaved pets, and feral children- but it is your responsibility to keep them safe and on leash! We built this cabin ourselves, and it isn’t anything fancy, but boy is she nice to wake up in! We used over 80% recycled materials during the build, and our landscape is full of native perennials, trees, and herbs that we have introduced to the land! We aim to live WITH nature, appreciate the small things in life! We hope you will see the beauty in it during your stay! It’s like off-grid living with the luxury of power and A/C.    Enjoy the firepit responsibly in the side yard, and stay up late to watch the dark sky and experience a milky way that you just cant get in cities!    Drop the provided Canoe, kayaks, or paddleboard in the water down at a nearby pond, just under a mile away. (boats are already down there) Take a sunset cruise to our favorite spot- and scope the mountain views that span all the way to the white mountains in New Hampshire while watching the sunset and the colors explode over the valley! Lake st George, the 4th largest spring fed Lake in Maine is only 10 minutes away, and is Prime fishing year round! (plus a ton of others nearby) The coast, fine dining, and entertainment in super cute town of Belfast is only 30 minutes, and the same for big box stores in the other direction. There are multiple disc golf course in the area! As well as an awesome brewery in town, and Dispensaries nearby for adults! We are a great stopping point on the way to Acadia, and if you aren't going that far- lots of our guests wake up early to take a day-trip there!      If you would like to book the entire property to use for additional campsites for more groups- just ask! We have a few sites throughout the woods- in the case you’re traveling with friends! We are here if you need us during your stay! Forget something?  Just ask!       We want to facilitate that rustic dream vacation in Maine however we can! Go ahead and treat this getaway cabin as your own during your visit, make yourself at home, and please leave it as you found it!       ***If you're looking for a fancy space, with indoor plumbing and pavement- I suggest the hotels in town or other rentals in the area. This one is for the nature nerds!

The Artist's Getaway Cabin
We needed a place to stay near Lake St.George with our pup on short notice. We camp a lot, and bring our dog everywhere with us. It's a rural area, very peaceful. Not far to Belfast. It's a cute and clean little cabin, no running water, but easy to manage. Power and A/C, great cell coverage. I recommend having a camp fire, and watching the stars on a clear night. Kimba was a great host and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed.

The Artist's Getaway Cabin
My husband and I and our small dog had a wonderful 2-night stay! The cabin & property is just as described in the listing. Adventurous spirits will love this unique Maine woods cabin experience paired with creature comforts like a king bed in a lovely air-conditioned bedroom. The cabin is a clean, welcoming and uncluttered space. We were welcomed with thoughtful extras we would not have expected, including fresh strawberries in the refrigerator, delicious homemade donuts and a hand-painted greeting card. It felt like waking up in a treehouse, surrounded by forest and sunshine. We saw monarch butterflies, a hummingbird, and from the porch at dusk we watched 4 bats swooping overhead. We appreciated the use of the canoe that Kimba and Jordan dropped off for us to use at nearby Chisholm Pond. We brought salads etc for easy meals and cleanup, so the fact that the cabin doesn’t have plumbing was not an issue for us. There was plenty of water provided including some bottled water. Make sure you check out nearby Lake St George Brewing including their new ‘lakeside bar’… great beers, mellow atmosphere, food truck, live music outdoors… and we got to watch 7 loons while enjoying our beers! Thank you to our kind and communicative hosts for a great stay!

Camping by the stream
This was such a nice campsite! Right by a small stream and was very private and spacious. Follow the directions carefully and you will get there just fine!

Where
I spent just short of a month at Kimba’s Nature Hostel as the first stop on a sort of walkabout, and I may have fallen for Maine. First and foremost, the hospitality I received made me feel like I was an old friend stopping by after an extended absence. In reality, I’m happy to call the host of this mushroom paradise a new friend that I will be sure to see again. While visiting Maine Maker’s Society (Kimba’s art coop a few miles down the road) for a quick shower (at first), I was offered food and drink, lively conversation, as well as destination recommendations and lessons in local flora and fauna. The food was delicious, the recommendations lived up to the hype, and I walked away knowing just a little about Maine’s wildlife. I really could not have dreamed of a better place to start wandering the country. If you are thinking the location is a little out of the way, it is true, the property certainly offers seclusion. However, driving to Moosehead Lake, Acadia, and other well-known Maine destinations allows you to enjoy winding country roads, numerous farm stands, and a Bob Ross palette of colors if traveling in early autumn. If you are looking for a getaway in the woods, stay here! Walk the grounds and notice the hundreds of species of fungi growing everywhere (literally identified about 150+ species using the Seek and Picture Mushroom apps), or turn over a log to find some salamanders. I recommend watching “Fantastic Fungi” prior to your trip to awaken your inner mycologist. Tree frogs and toads may even pass by to check out your camp. Red squirrels and chipmunks will chat your ear off during the day and torture any canines who think themselves skilled hunters. At night, the owls may sing you the tragedy of Loki, the Australian Shepherd, who ran into a porcupine on a small gravel road a few miles from the property and then had to deal with the laughing squirrels while groggy on pain medication from the vet. Warning: be careful with your pets, I learned the hard way. If fungi and critters aren’t your thing, start a fire and relax while listening to the cold, crystal water of the stream right next to the campsite, or enjoy the numerous ponds and lakes you can find within a short distance. Whatever you are looking for, Kimba, I’m sure, will help you find your way. Happy camping!

Quiet and quaint, along with service for t mobile! A beautiful forest filled area along with that. Kimba was very welcoming and was quick to give me recommendations for things to do both around the sight and in Maine. Along with leaving scones and a very nice outhouse to use. I would gladly stay again. Thanks Kimba!
