Watch for loons and bald eagles that frequent the piney tree tops and coyotes, bobcats and moose down below. Thereâs waterfront (and boat in) camping, so those who are wanting long floats down the East Machias River and itâs thrilling rapids, can stop off and enjoy the tranquility of Rocky Lake. The prime time to visit Rocky Lake Public Reserved Land is during May and June, when water levels are ideal for fishing and the landscape is lush. However, be prepared for the black fly season. Winter offers a serene, snowy escape for ice fishing and snowmobiling, though access roads are not plowed.
