We joined HipCamp in August 2020. Within three weeks we went from one to ten unique tent campsites, in addition to our RV area.
Here's an over view of the tent sites:
1. REDBUD MEADOW: Our first campsite used by hundreds of people over the years. A secluded lawn in the midst of redbud trees, easy to drive to and from with a pile of firewood and a metal fire ring. The premier site on our property.
2. BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season.
3. THE THISTLEDOWN GATHERING: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very

3. THE THISTLEDOWN GATHERING: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season.
4. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent.
5. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season.
6. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. COOK FIRE ONLY. NO LARGE BLAZES OR BONFIRES
7. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only. NO FIRES as the site benefits from the shade and protection of overhanging cedar trees.
8. THE OLD COATES GARDEN: This farm was once home to the Coates Family in the 1800's. The old house is currently under renovation. The back yard is where the family had their garden and we are allowing you to camp in the yard. Access to water and the bath/shower facilities will be only steps away once those amenities are finished.
9. THE STEEPLEVIEW: Behind the old Coates Barn is a very level, spot that is easy to drive to and park. Separated from the OLD COATES GARDEN by the antique post and beam, mortise and tenon barn with some remaining hand hewn beams this spot offers a view of the Steeple on the Poplar Grove Baptist Church from which we get our name. FIRE IN FIRE RING ONLY.
10. OLD COUNTRY ROAD: With a nice view of the woods this spot is a level location separated by a line of trees from the country road which divides our farm into two tracts. From here you can easily access the road and take advantage of ther attractions in our area. Fires permitted in season.
SO WHAT'S OUR STORY?
Thirty five years ago we brought our two young sons to this overgrown, neglected, tobacco farm and began uncovering its secrets. The old head stanchions revealed the once pristine dairy farm hidden by the scrub brush. Old timber, rock piles and buried rock foundations disclosed the families and work that has once occupied the land and the lives of its prior inhabitants.
We set out to do things the pioneer way, with antique hand tools, raising all of our own food, heating with wood, learning leather craft, tool making, the art of fermentation, animal husbandry and all the things it took to restore this farm to its fully glory.
Today we operate an beautiful and all natural produce farm, a sunflower patch, a place for others to come and commune with nature on our walking trails, around our fishing pond, or just being in this gorgeous environment.
We have just begun hosting visitors for overnight stays this year and it has been a tremendous experience. So many great people, so many great stories and so many opportunities to share the blessings of our little piece of heaven with you.
We hope to see you here.
