Camping out next to a cave filled with gems? Sign us up! At Carter Caves, you can do just that: stake your tent down, fill up your coffee mug, then descend into dark, moody, awesome, mind-blowing caves. Get on a tour of the Cascade Cave, the longest cave in the park, where you can see an underground reflecting pool and a 30-foot waterfall. Whoa. If that’s not enough, take the plunge down into the X Cave, named for it’s criss-cross limestone passageways, where you’ll see the largest rock formations of the entire cave system. After being subterranean for so long, you may need to get out in the sunshine and fresh air for a bit. Grab your canoe and paddle around the 45-acre Smokey Lake, reel in a trophy bass, then get out to the putt-putt golf course for some friendly competition. Whatever you do, don’t forget to hike across the naturally-occurring limestone bridges, one of the many unique and really cool things you’ll find at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
