Camp Escape

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents15 acres · Louisville, KY
15 acres with a barn and creek. Our property also boarders the Jefferson County Forestry and is close to Tom Wallace Park. This 5 acres is a corner lot next to railroad tracks so there are two roads on two sides. This is a very rural type area yet still in the city so you will hear and see a combination of city/country things. We are very close to Fort Knox and Knob Creek gun range. You will most likely encounter wildlife, hear gunfire, hear cars and the train go by, you will probably see and hear us and the neighbors on tractors and trucks. This is a working farm among other farming type residents. This is a space for someone to camp with their personal camping equipment. There is no water, no shower, no electric or anything else besides a fire pit. You need to bring your own supplies. We border the Jefferson County Forestry with an entrance about 1 mile away. We are about 30 mins away from downtown, but just 5 mins from a Kroger, Walmart, and a dozen different restaurants. We are also about 15 mins from Fort Knox. There is a shared porta potty onsite.

Learn more about this land: I live on 5.5 acres. It's peaceful and quiet and I love it here. I've stayed at other hip camps and simply decided that I would love to share my little slice of heaven with others passing through my area.  Notes: there is a wee bit of road noise, I live on a dead end road, there are 10 acres between my 5 acres and the Blue Grass Parkway.  I find it peaceful here and can easily ignore it but I'm mentioning it so your not surprised by it  ;)  The Neighbor dog (Roxy) is very friendly and might visit you while you are here :) You are welcome to hang a hammock in a small section of woods, by a small pond, or even on my covered porch. You are welcome to pitch a tent anywhere you like. You are welcome to park an RV or vehicle in the drive.  The drive is about 250ft long, you would need to back in in order to hook up to the 30 or 50 amp plug. RV's can use the 50 amp plug and hose for water. I have an outdoor shower and a camping toilet. Dragonfly Ranch camping with horses

2 sites · RVs, Tents90 acres · Cub Run, KY
Learn more about this land: This is a horse ranch so you can sleep in the company of horses or in the woods with them in the distance ( check if available/storm damage). We have rolling hills, beautiful views from the hill tops, valley with creeks and a waterfall when not in dry or draught and an abundance of wildlife. Also we're located 5-10 minutes from mammoth cave park border, hike, bike and horse trails, river, lake, blue holler atv park and so much more. If you are sensitive to animal noises you may bring earplugs. There isn't a bathroom/ shower house yet so we ask that you bring a port-a-pot of some sort. We're constantly making upgrades to the Ranch so we hope you enjoy your stay. Please refrain from feeding the horses or dogs because it creates a bad habit and folks that don't know how sensitive a horses gut is can possibly kill them. Respect privacy of others and pack out all that you pack in. Shut any gates you come through. We have a hot wire fenced in section for folks to park in if they do not want to be so close to the horses as well. If you don't like horses or dogs please consider alternative camp site. Limited pet allowance...check before booking please. Also, we've had issues with the site and it offering horse time, ride, Q&A etc. for 5$. We've taken steps to fix this. But if you would like something like that it would be through the Ranch directly and as our time allows. Thank you for taking the time to read everything as well.

Beardsnest

3 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Park City, KY
This new-in-formation ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to backcountry camp in our beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along an evolving system of woodland trails. Most likely a good fit for those who are self-sufficient and like to avoid busy camping areas, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~ 1 mi to park border) or visit Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails amidst a young prairie, as if you were camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. Water tap by main house for cleaning dishes, etc. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~400 so far and 75 planned for 2024), establish a prairie, restore wetlands, trail building, and removal of invasive species. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project. p.s. Bundles of dried and split firewood are available onsite, usually a mix of red cedar and oak with a suggested donation of $5/bundle.

The best camping near Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park guide

Overview

About

Before Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial was built, the president's birthplace in central Kentucky drew people in with its lush surroundings and historic buildings. Covering over 344 acres, the historic park is made up of the Birthplace Unit. It features a typical 19th-century cabin in all its glory, as well as the Boyhood Home Unit.

The Birthplace includes the Sinking Spring, Boundary Oak, and Visitor's Center. Start at the Visitor's Center where you can get a rundown of the great president's life. Next, tour Sinking Spring. Once this site was the place for all the homestead's water needs, now it's a refreshing hike with caves and rock formations. Next, head over to Knob Creek, the president's boyhood home.

Abraham Lincoln's birthplace is more than just a historical site; it's also a natural one. Take a walk along either the Overlook Trail, Boundary Oak Trail, or Big Sink Trail. Keep an eye out for a variety of birds from great-horned owls to the purple finch. There are woodland creatures such as white-tailed deer, red foxes, and pine voles.

Visit in the spring or fall to avoid hot and humid weather and enjoy the blossoming wildflowers or fall foliage. Take U.S. Highway 31E to the park (the road runs north-south right through it), and exit on Park Srv Road, Park Main Entrance, or Nancy Lincoln Inn Road. While no overnighting or camping is allowed in the park, you can take a picnic lunch and eat underneath the trees. Camp nearby at Elizabethtown or Bonnieville.
