A visit to Hoosier National Forest is like hitting the outdoor adventure jackpot. With 202,000 acres on which to roam, this diverse and happenin’ hideaway has a little somethin’ for everyone to enjoy. Hike, bike, or horseback ride on hundreds of miles of trails, some through old-growth forests. Marvel at the seasonal waterfalls and sandstone rock formations and canyons. Geodes are common in parts of the forest, so if you’re feelin’ lucky, take a chance and pan for gold and gems in local streams! The numerous lakes scattered throughout the forest afford enviable boating and fishing opportunities. And, be sure to check out Wesley Chapel Gulf, an 8-acre collapsed sinkhole that provides a window to the underground river system. The unique surrounding topography is called “karst,” which is home to a tons of unusual wildlife, some of which is endangered. Whatever your fortune, you’ll definitely be sittin’ pretty at Hoosier.
