Named for the Native Americans that once inhabited the area, 510-acre Illini State Park is the kind of place you imagine big picnics and family reunions going down. But, what’s really intriguing is the sense of beauty and history it inspires. The northern edge of the park is bordered by the Great Falls of the Illinois River where you’ll find gorgeous, roaring rapids. Head east and you’ll see remnants of the once prestigious Marsatawa Country Club.

Today, visitors enjoy camping, wildlife sightings (white-tailed deer, beavers and groundhogs to name a few) and fishing (crappie, bass, bluegill, catfish, carp, bullheads). Even in the winter this park will serve you well with an ice skating pool, sledding hills and a shelter to revive those frozen digits.
