Horseshoe Lake State Park
Spend a night next to the second-largest natural lake in Illinois.
Sat to Sun: Closed
Camp at a lake state park with tons of recreational opportunities on 2,960 acres. The lake is close to the mighty Mississippi River and just 10 miles from downtown St. Louis. Take your boat onto the Mississippi to see this historic waterway.
Fish from the shore or your boat. Cast your line and bait to catch bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, carp, and buffalo. You may have some competition as herons, egrets, and migratory waterfowl also fish for their supper.
Boats cannot be on the lake during waterfowl hunting season. That's when hunters use the designated duck blinds at the park and shoot out over the water. Nearby Bohm Woods Nature Preserve and Chouteau Island also allow hunting. C
