Wahi Nanea Place of Relaxation

7 sites ¡ Lodging, RVs, Tents2 acres ¡ Kula, HI
The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby. We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

8 Acres of untouched land, enjoy camping in the meadow or forest. This location is in a prime spot and is accessible by any vehicle. We are 20 minutes from surfing or 30 minutes from beach town shopping in Paia, we are a great stop if you are going to do the road to Hana. Enjoy a perfect view of the night sky and the quiet of the jungle. We have running water so you can rinse off after the beach, a bathroom on site. You do not need a special camping license and please no fires at this time. Upon booking you will get an automatic message with details of the exact location and entrance instructions (Late night checkin is fine if you are quiet). If you do not receive this please contact Hipcamp and book our site only through Hipcamp. Our location can be challenging to find if you do not follow the directions. Using the exact GPS is not recommended because a nearby road was closed due to a bridge washing out a few years ago. Some campers did not follow the instructions and were unable to find the campsite due to this.

Haiku Farm, Homeschool & Campground

8 sites ¡ Lodging, Tents5 acres ¡ Haiku, HI
WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT ON-THE-GROUND TENT CAMPING RIGHT NOW. DUE TO NEIGHBORS, WE CANNOT ACCEPT VEHICLE CAMPERS/CAR-TOP TENTS. There is a place to park your vehicle away from the forest, where tents are set up. WE ALSO OFFER LODGING IN OUR LIBRARY ROOM. MAUI FIRE UPDATE: WE ARE IN HAIKU, WHERE IT IS STILL GREEN AND BEAUTIFUL. WE STILL WELCOME GUESTS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO ENJOY MAUI'S NATURE BEAUTY. Prayers to all Maui 'ohana suffering losses. Losing Lahaina and its people is devastating for us all. Please be generous in any way you can to help monetarily if you can, or by volunteering. Mahalo! WE HAVE MADE IMPROVEMENTS SINCE THIS SUMMER, WHEN WE FIRST OPENED. We hope you will find it delightful to camp here! BECAUSE WE HAVE A HOME SCHOOL, ALL CAMPERS CAN ONLY CHECK-IN AFTER 4 PM AND MUST BE COMPLETELY OFF PROPERTY BEFORE 8 AM TUESDAY MORNINGS THROUGH FRIDAY MORNINGS. We can offer more flexibility Friday nights through Monday nights. ON THE WAY TO HANA! Super convenient location! You feel like you are far away in amongst trees, gardens and the sound of the wind. This is a beautiful property which features over 200 fruit trees, and an educational subtropical vegetable garden, perpetuating food security in Hawaii. The acreage gives the feeling of spaciousness, yet we are close to Haiku town and Community Center. CHECK-IN MUST BE BEFORE 8 PM UNLESS YOU CONTACT HOST AND REQUEST OTHER ARRANGEMENTS. NOTE: We may have other campers here, as well farm workers and student interns. YOU MAY BE CAMPING OR PREPARING FOOD IN OUR OUTDOOR KITCHEN WITH OTHER PEOPLE. This is an operational farm. The community kitchen is an OUTDOOR kitchen area that our farm interns and students use as well. There is produce washing, drying and packaging on harvest days Mondays-Thursdays during the day, and sometimes value-added products being made during the days as well. Evenings the area is less crowded and tables are clear for your use. BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY CAMPFIRE AND KITCHEN AND BATHROOM ARE AWAY FROM THE TENT SITES, YOU CAN KEEP TO YOURSELF IN YOUR TENT AREA AND/OR MEET FRIENDS FROM AROUND THE WORLD WHEN AROUND THE FIRE OR IN THE SHARED OUTDOOR KITCHEN AREA. WE DO OUR BEST TO HOLD A FEELING OF ALOHA HERE, AND HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN OUR GUESTS COME IN GRATITUDE, TOGETHER, WE ALL ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL VIBRATION OF MAUI! We are loving the special feeling everyone brings to our farm campground and to each other. E KOMO MAI :) We are about 15 minutes from Paia town, Ho'okipa and Baldwin beaches - that's where everyone likes to hang out! We are also about 15 minutes in the opposite direction from Twin Falls - a favorite swim hole and water fall spot! We can offer a clean pit toilet, outdoor shower, and a covered and lighted eating area with the basic equipment for cooking. You bring your tent and essentials. No hook-ups. There is an outlet in the outdoor kitchen area to charge devices and you may use wifi there. Check bulletin board for WiFi code. Haiku is not known for having great cell phone reception/wifi. However, most people can get connected in the community kitchen area. WEEKLY FARM PRODUCTS MAY BE AVAILABLE. PLEASE INQUIRE IF INTERESTED AND/OR CHECK THE BULLETIN BOARD IN THE PICNIC AREA. We specialize in Subtropic greens to add to salads and cooking greens and fresh herbs too. We often have fruit, like citrus, papaya, mango, starfruit. Please ask us about our value-added products such as pesto, fermented veggies, Hawaiian chile pepper water, tinctures, healing salves, and our specialty seeds and cuttings. Value added products are individually priced and available any day. Please inquire. PLEASE TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR CAMP SET-UP SO WE CAN GIVE PEOPLE A SENSE OF WHAT IT'S LIKE! Mahalo!!!!

Stargazers Jungle Lounge Glampsite

7 sites ¡ RVs, Tents5 acres ¡ Hana, HI
A community hostel style setting of young hearted people to host your stay in Hāna, Maui. We are three miles from downtown Hāna, one mile from Waianapanapa State Park, and close to Hana Farms, The Lava Tubes, and Kahanu Garden. Our ocean view property has a field of tropical flowers underneath some of the largest banyan trees on the island. NOTE: WE HAVE A STRICT CANCELLATION POLICY. WE ONLY HAVE 4 SITES AND THEY FILL UP QUICKLY. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL INSIDE OF OUR 7 DAY CANCELLATION WINDOW AND ASK FOR A REFUND. We are literally located in the middle of a dense jungle, and the animals and creatures live here first. The winter brings its own crab spiders, and all year long we have geckos, mosquitos, wild pigs and dogs in the neighborhood that are beyond our control. Also please know that we currently have a friendly guard dog and two sweet cats living on the property. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK WITH US IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE OUTDOORS and are only staying because you canʝt find anything else affordable. Yes, we offer many amenities from home in our Clubhouse, but we are by no means a hotel. Yes we charge more than the state campsites but we also offer soooo much more than they do. OUTDOOR provides two separate lighted tented areas. 1. The BYOB Jungle Bar, and 2, The Jungle Lounge area with seating with internet reception, and a makeshift kitchen equipped with cooking wares, propane camp stove, and potable county water (all supplied). We have a small fire pit when the winds are calm. Bring wood, or you can try and salvage from the jungle. INDOOR COMMUNAL SPACE referred to as our "Clubhouse" boasts a partial ocean view. Here you will find a living room are, dining table, game room with some old school video games, (Centipede, Asteroids, Galaga) and collection of board games. We also have a projector/screen for movie nights. Our SHOWER ROOM has a newly renovated large bamboo enclosement with propane instant hot water with great water pressure. The second INDOOR KITCHEN is stocked with cooking wares, toaster, coffee grinder, vitamix, tea kettle, stove top, fridge and sink available for guest use 5AM to 10PM. CAMPER VANS / POP UPS: THE ONLY FLAT SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR CAMPER VEHICLES ARE THE BANYAN SITES. These spots have a gravel rock bottom and are not suitable for pitching a tent. We get this question all the time so let me try and clarify here. ALL OTHER PARKING SPOTS ARE ON A HILL AND NOT FLAT. If you want to sleep in your van but can NOT secure the BANYAN TREE SITES, your best option is to book a tent only campsite (where we already have an existing tent set up for you). TENT SITES: You will NOT be able to drive to the TENT ONLY sites. You have to park your vehicle in the designated parking area and then walk to and sleep in the tent with your sleeping gear from your van (About 100 feet away from parking area). Included in every reservation at the BAMBOO or OCEAN VIEW / TENT ONLY Sites you will find a 4-6 Man Sleep Tent, Mattress and 13 Foot Popup Canopy Tent for extra rain protection over the sleep tent. This is already set up and waiting for you! If you need a sleep setup you can add it upon HipCamp check out for an additional $25. This includes: one xlarge blanket, set of full sheets, 2 pillows, pillowcases, 2 towels and lantern. MORE THEN TWO PEOPLE / KIDS: Because ONLY TWO PEOPLE PER SITE ARE ALLOWED per reservation. You have two options. Option 1: IF YOU HAVE FOUR PEOPLE - BOOK TWO CAMP SITES. Option 2: ADD YOUR 2 ADDITIONAL PEOPLE UPON CHECK OUT and contact me so I can block off the second site. This is because we have limited resources (Space, Kitchen, Bathroom, Shower etc) so we have to be mindful of how many people we are hosting in one night. IF YOU SHOW UP WITH MORE PEOPLE THEN BOOKED - YOU WILL BE CHARGED $44.00 PER ADDITIONAL PERSON. If you have a children 6 years and younger there is no charge but we would still like to be informed that there will be extra people in your party. Please contact us and get permission before you just show up with extra people. CHECK IN: Between 5-7pm. We currently request quiet hours at 8pm to be courteous to our neighbors and campers. And light on a timer go out at 10pm. The sun and moon will rise over the ocean in front. HANA PREPAREDNESS INFO: The East side of the island is considered the rain forest. It typically rains almost every night and during the day at some point or another. And sometimes very heavy rains. This keeps it lush and green with running waterfalls, but with that, Hana does have mosquitoes too, (worse in the summer) so plan accordingly. We have a few mosquito nets (first come first use) if you need them for your car/van just ask. The jungle also has its own wildlife like spiders, geckos and also wild pigs that activate the neighborhood dogs at times so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise. The Hāna Highway is one of the most magical roads in the world and we appreciate when you let the locals pass. If you have any requests or concerns, just let us know. We aim to please and look forward to hosting you! And be sure to make a reservation to visit the State Park Waianapanpa Black Sand Beach at their website. That is the only park in Hana that requires advanced reservations and it is a must see! The 7-10AM slot is the best for less crowds. FOOD: Be sure to, stock up on groceries before you come out as choices are very limited in Hana and the town closes down early @6pm. We have one gas station (open later) and two small general stores. You will find food trucks in Hana town open later when business is good but its hit or miss what will be open when. 1/2 mile walking distance to camp we have Acai Bowls, Thai Food, and Hana Farms. Every Friday and Saturday nights is Pizza night at Hana Farms and a popular meeting spot.

The Hippocampus

9 sites ¡ Lodging, Tents10 acres ¡ Hawi, HI
Legend has it, Kohala (the first of the 5 volcanos on the Big Island of Hawaii) is home to King Kamehameha I and this was the home to the Ali'i and the training grounds for their warriors. You can feel it when you walk into the forest and listen deeply and intuitively to your ancestors. It is truly an honor to be on this 'aina (land). Modern history: Up until 1984 this property was all avocado, Kukui and Ironwood land with the Kohala ditch running on the far south end. It wasn't until my current neighbor and sweet friend and her father bought the property and cleared away 160 Ironwoods to create a property that could be farmed and lived on. Then another couple bought the property in early 2000 and built it out with farm houses and gardens. Once they moved back to the mainland, this was home to the local skydive family where the pilots and instructors were housed. Finally, in 2021, Cirque-Girl Sequoia came in with a huge vision of a conscious homesteading community, learning and teaching alongside one another by way of events, projects, concerts, talks and certifications, all the while farming and creating even bigger orchards to feed not just her community, but the community of Hawi and beyond. At this time, not only is it "hip" to farm and grow your own food, but it is crucial. Learn more about this land: Everybody comes to Hawaii and thinks of beaches, surf and jungles but why not try a different side of Hawaii? The Ironwood Forests of Hawi are where you’ll find I'o (Hawaiian Hawks) and Pueo (Hawaiian owls only found on the Big Island), as the ancestor's whispers run through the massive forest of Ironwood, Kukui Nut and Avocado, in an ancient river bed of sugar plantation country. Deep in the heart of Hawaii’s only extinct volcano Kohala, this was home to the most prestigious Ali’i (Hawaiian Royalty) and the training grounds of warriors. Our farm sits on 10 acres, with over 30 varieties of fruit trees and a view of the Big Blue (the ocean). We provide 2 Hipcabins and 4 platforms, hammocks to daydream in, car camping, a center camp that has a kitchen, bathroom and shower plus a magical forest for you to meditate, do massage, practice Reiki, read or just have a beautiful discussion in. If you feel inclined to step out of the forest, you are welcome to use our communal eating area THE GROOVY GRINDS CAFE under the mango trees and we would love if you wanted to be a part of any of the events that we host here with our live-on conscious community. Things we do and can offer aerial, yoga and meditation classes, massage (ask hostess PRIOR to trip about booking sessions), drum circles, bonfire nights, fire-dancing, Thursday community potluck dinners @ 6:30pm, mini-concerts, painting, planting, building projects and whatever we get called to do. ....and what's camping without a bonfire? We have two bonfire pits lower on the property that you can join in on if our community already has one going. (NO fires in the gulch please.) One of our biggest bragging rights is that we are utilizing the vermaculture toilets which feeds our red wiggler worms, filters through 4 layers of organic matter and turns your toilet waste into nitrogen rich effluent for the plants. (NO TOILET PAPER PROVIDED SO PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN) and the gray water from the shower and kitchen sink go into a plot of banana trees. So our bathroom, shower and cooking facility is completely self-sufficient! We provide a nice two-burner stove and propane. Please shut off when not in use (remember, propane tanks are backwards for on and off!) PLEASE PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN!!! Funny that I should need to say this but.... PLEASE BRING EARPLUGS and BUG SPRAY as this is the forest and forests too have critters like mosquitos and animals like roosters, dogs and pigs that make noise. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE AFTER DARK AND PLEASE USE DIRECTIONS AND NOT GOOGLE MAPS! It will take you down a 4x4 road.  And when it’s time to step out of the forest and out of Pueo Ridge, we are a 5-minute drive directly above the main center of town and 15 minutes to the famous Pololu Valley hike that runs deep into the jagged switchbacks of the Northern coast. Our area also headlines in ADVENTURE with skydiving, zip-lining, hiking and forest adventures. Mahalo for reading!
