Honouliuli National Monument
Learn about the prisoner of war experience at Honouliuli. The US imprisoned Japanese Americans at this internment camp during WWII. When it opens to the public, the park will tell their story.
Honouliuli will focus on the wartime experience of prisoners in the camp. Through photos and interpretive exhibits, you can learn about the American immigrants imprisoned there. Walk through the site to get a feel for camp life. Until the monument is finished, you can tour the camp with the Japanese Cultural Center. Can't make a tour? Head to the Honouliuli Education Center in Mō‘ili‘ili. There, you can see artifacts from prisoners and watch videos about their experience. The center also has virtual tours of the monument.

Once you're settled in, hike the Puu O Hulu to see historic bunkers. Go bodysurfing at Ulehawa Beach, or try kayaking through Middle Loch in Waipahu. Pearl Harbor and Waikiki sit within an easy drive, offering everything from history to sunbathing.
