About

Where can you learn about WWII and snorkel through a coral reef in one day? War In The Pacific Park, that's where. It's an education and an island vacation, all in one.

This massive National Historic Park celebrates the role Guam played in the WWII Pacific Theater. The visitor center is the place to start. Learn how American troops recaptured the island from the Japanese in 1944. Actual footage from the war brings history to life. Then, head out to Asan Beach, the main site of the brutal battle. Today, it's an island paradise. Stroll the white sand, go for a swim, and read interpretive signs as you go. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkeling; you might even see a sea turtle.

After you've gotten some sun, load the park's audio guide and hit the road. The guide takes you to six other sites around the island. See how the Japanese defended the coast at the Piti Guns Unit. At Mt. Alifan, check out bomb craters and trenches. From Mt. Chachao, you can see where the Japanese watched the advancing Americans.

You'll find spectacular campsites around Guam. In fact, all public parks are open for camping. Want a sunset? Head straight for Tarague Beach.
