Three Seasons

2 sites ¡ RVs, Tents4 acres ¡ Lee, FL
Do you want luxury? This is not your place. Do you want affordability, a place to rest your head that isn't a truck stop or an over-lighted parking lot? This is your place. Located behind the Love's truck stop just off of I-10, this is a perfect location to call it a night after a long trip, as you have four equidistant major cities around you; Valdosta, Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Jacksonville. There are multiple spots here for RVs and trailers, as well as pretty much free rein of the property, but be warned, I just purchased it and I'm still chopping trees, so she's not a pretty sight and I don't have facilities yet.

Many Springs are located close by where you can swim and scuba dive. There is a Canoe Outpost close by that offers drop off and pick up with canoes. Property has many trees, cement benches around a firepit, picnic table, a large extra work table for cooking. Bring your RV, Tent, Van, Hammock or whatever you are comfortable in. Unwind, relax and enjoy the sounds and beauty of nature. I supply a map of the River and the surrounding area to help you make the most of your experience. If you need help with things I am close by. There is soo much history about the Suwannee River in North Florida! :D It is known that Indians once traveled along these banks and proof has been found from many Arrow Heads and other artifacts being found along the Suwannee River. There are many Springs along the over 240 miles of River as it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The Suwannee River begins it's journey in the Okefenokee Swamp in South Georgia. This is also where the Suwannee River gets it's tannic color from the decaying vegetation in the swamp. More about the Suwannee River can be found at: MySuwanneeRiver.com

The best camping near Suwannee River State Park guide

Overview

About

Explore natural and human history at the confluence of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee Rivers. (Say that five times fast.) Travel by canoe to see all of the inlets, water birds, and maybe an alligator or two. The gators like to sun themselves on the river banks. The shores have dynamic cypress and magnolia trees droop with Spanish moss. This serene setting lets you listen for the peal of birds and the skittering of small mammals.

There is a lot of history here, too. A boardwalk takes you to the Confederate earthworks. This large mound served as a promontory to protect the nearby railroad trestle over the rivers. The sand hills and swamp reclaimed two ghost towns from the Civil War era.

You might also see the remnants of a 19th century steamship and its gigantic paddle wheel. These ghosts of the past remind you that this place once bustled with human activity. Rustic camps have fire circles for ambiance and cooking your food. In-park cabins provide a few more creature comforts.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Suwannee River State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer months can be hot and humid, while winter brings cooler temperatures that may affect some activities.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the season to ensure a comfortable visit.
