Enjoy the outdoors all year long at this high-elevation state park. Â
Situated at an elevation of around 8,000 feet, this Western Colorado state park provides plenty of great opportunities to get out and enjoy winter, no matter the season. The high-mountain lake here can be used for both motorized and non-motorized water sports and there's a fishing pier for those who don't have their own boats. Swimming is also allowed in non-wake areas. Winter activities include snowshoeing, sledding, ice-fishing, and even ice skating, and a few of the campsites and all five of the cabins at the park are open to winter visitors.
Vega State Park offers a mix of summer and winter activities, making it a good place to visit year-round. That said, summer is still the most popular time to visit, and the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is usually busy. This is also the only time of the year where hunting is permitted in the park. Camping season runs from mid-May through the end of September, with some sites available in October and from mid-April through mid-May.
