Mtn. View Sheep Camp

1 site ¡ Lodging56 acres ¡ Walden, CO
We are located 4 miles from Routt National Forest. You'll arrive at the ranch headquarters and we will either take you to the sheep wagon or give you directions to it. The sheep wagon is nestled in an Aspen grove (on 56 acres) with a creek just 12 feet away. From there, you are 1/4 mile away from the national forest and the wilderness. There are thousands of acres to explore, either by hiking , biking or horseback riding. You are also just minutes away from great trout fishing lakes and streams. While here ask about ranch tours and visiting with our sheep, horses, cows and chickens! There will be cattle or sheep on the property with the sheep wagon. Please note that cell phone service is very limited in the area.

Spotted Fox Meadow

4 sites ¡ RVs, Tents175 acres ¡ Yampa, CO
This land has been my family's ranch since the early 70's. We love it here and are happy to share it with campers that wish to enjoy the valley and respect the land. More about this campsite: The site is in a small ranch pasture along the Bear River near willow, birch, and large cottonwood trees. From the campsite there are views of the Flat Top mountains and ancient volcanic necks. Very quiet except for ranch activity and the friendly livestock guardian dogs (who will visit, and they bark to protect the sheep and goats at night) - it's a working ranch and you may have to contend with talkative sheep or dodge the occasional cow pie!

Overview

About

Make sure that camera of yours is charged, because you're gonna need it. Covering 1,125,438 acres, this forest stretches from northwestern Colorado to northeastern Wyoming. This Forest is a scenic powerhouse that includes the well-known Steamboat Ski Resort (champagne powder, anyone?). In the summer, you can kayak or canoe on one of the eight mountain lakes or fish for your supper.

Many outdoor enthusiasts consider these parts of Colorado to be the prettiest in the entire state. There's clearly no shortage of fun ways to play outside. Revel in the plentiful hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and off-roading. The forest includes 10 designated Wilderness Areas. Bring binoculars for some birdwatching and to spot some of the shier animals.

You won't find developed campgrounds in the Thunder Basin National Grassland area. However, the ranger district allows camping. When camping in the wilderness for a few days, check in with the local forest service office.
