The original land owners were homesteaders who came to cattle ranch. The sons grew up on the ranch, went to school in Canon City, were educated as lawyers, and their widows acquired the land. I purchased the land from the widows. They held this land when they sold the majority of the ranch to the present ranchers who now run cattle. BLM has much of the land in this area because of its beauty and the amount of wildlife on the land. For many years people suspected this land might have the minerals found in Cripple Creek, and maybe even gold. Nothing was yet been found, as perhaps the volcanic activity that formed Cripple Creek was not the same that occurred years ago when High Park Ranch was formed by volcanic activity.
