New Earth at Blanca Peak
Camping with the stars
Had a great time at New Earth. Was easy to find and drive to with our RV. I love how the camping spot is slightly sunken so you feel even more secluded. Doesn’t feel flat like the surrounding area and you can’t see another soul. I think It also helps cut out the wind. Beautiful views in every direction, quiet and relaxing. Great start gazing.

New Earth at Blanca Peak
A beautiful region but many issues.
Unfortunately my wife and I did not stay the night at this location. We arrived Saturday afternoon after driving several miles on washboarded roads (Our travels take us down washboarded roads all the time so that wasn't an issue for us). However, we arrived to the Hipcamp location and were greeted by the hipcamp signs as well as trash. We arrived at the coordinates given to us near the southern side of the property and were immediately greeted by a discarded camper awning on the left hand side of the access road. I walked down the access road and found more trash as well as recent ATV tracks passing through the property. Seeing as this was allegedly private property, the ATV tracks were a bit concerning because we were hoping for a secluded and quiet stay. The property itself was pleasant, but I did not find a clearing within the 5 acre property to camp at. More troublesome, the access road leading into the property may not be owned by the hipcamp owner. Using the Costilla County Assessor website, I found the access road to be owned by "The Colorado Land Fund LLC" and I am not sure if the hipcamp owner is affiliated with this organization, or if in fact, future hipcampers are trespassing on private property to access the hipcamp site. My friends and I have stayed at many hipcamp sites with great success but this one presented too many red flags for my wife and I to stay here comfortably. We moved on to our plan B, a dispersed camping location closer to the national park.

New Earth at Blanca Peak
Safe, secluded and BEAUTIFUL!
Absolutely loved taking our truck camper out to New Earth at the base of Mt. Blanca. This property was close enough to the main road for easy access, but secluded where you felt like it was just you out there. The property is about 5 acres as a whole and we had no issue finding a space to set up, there were three cleared areas to choose from. We spent the afternoon wandering the roads surrounding the property and appreciating the awe inspiring view before collecting some wood to make a fire and cook dinner. There is just enough cell service which was great to communicate with the host, Meral. We've stayed at many places in the high desert but this one just felt especially safe and relaxing. We left in the morning to Great San Dines National Park which was only 25 minutes from the site, making the location even better.
