The first white people in this immediate area were missionaries. We’ve been told the Native Americans that occupied this land had presented leather maps to the settlers, informing them of game trails, bears, and fishing. Silver Fork Ranch was a working cattle ranch and summer home. Looking at maps you can find Silver Fork Ranch named as Mahon Camp, the old time cowboy camp. You will see the rustic old cattle loading ramp, cedar corrals, and barn. Ranchers still bring cattle to this area of the High Sierras for summer range grazing. You’ll hear the far off sound of cow bells long before you see the cows come home.
