Nestled into the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountains, Mono Lake is hauntingly beautiful. Tall spires called tufa flowers have formed eerie structures throughout the basin as fresh spring water bubbles up through the mineral rich alkaline water. An ancient body of water with no outlet, Mono Lake has been collecting minerals from the surrounding snow melt year after year, resulting in a salt concentration more than twice that of the ocean.
Aside from a hyperbouyant swim Mono Lake is famous for the millions of migratory birds that come to feast on the brine shrimp that live in the salty water.
