Settled by Italian immigrants in the 1880's, FlipJack Ranch has a long history. Redwood harvesting was the major industry and our forest bears the marks of the old growth trees, surrounded by the fairy rings of newer giant redwoods that are about 120 years old. The arable land was originally planted with vines, but during Prohibition, the family planted orchards.
By 1950, the Italian descendants had moved on and the Strong family moved into the original 1930's cabin on the property which had only one bedroom. With three children of their own and eight adopted kids, they added wings onto the house. They kept a milk cow, chickens and a kitchen garden.
In 2013, the property was sold to David and Robin Colleen, your hosts. Their goal is to raise the highest quality meats and to produce the finest ranch made products. The bed and breakfast guests are treated to ranch raised eggs, produce and locally foraged specialties.
Some of our guests come for complete relaxation, escaping to the quiet of the redwoods. Other guests love the nearby activities and interacting with our farm animals. It is the best of both worlds.
