San Diego is an hour south. You also have easy 10-minute access to the beaches of San Clemente. Dana Point Harbor is the area's major draw. Rent a small paddle boat or charter a classic schooner to enjoy the Pacific waters close up. Got kids along for your trip? Make sure you take one of the harbor's memorable whale-watching tours. A six-lane launch ramp area makes it easy to bring your own watercraft. Doheny State Beach is right next door and the place to go if you're into surfing. Bring your board to the busy north side of the beach and get ready to make some friends. Tote your tent down to the south side to find waterside campsites. Note that there are no electrical or water hookups for RVs here. As with most areas in Southern California, Dana Point's weather is ace year-round. Highs stay between a very comfortable 65 to 80 from spring to fall. Even in the winter, low temps stay far from freezing.
