If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren nature that is alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians remind us of those who lived before us. This is where the deer and the antelope play. Our Carrizo Camp is surrounded by the Carrizo Plains National Monument. This is truly a get away from it all camping. That's it. You, the coyotes and your own private moon. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets. Our Ranch House and Glampsites are available on occasion. This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. This land was sparsely populated by the Chumash Indian and is evident by the numerous cave painting that remain here near the Caliente mountain. In the era of the California Missions, this land was a part of the Spanish land grants. Currently the property is privately owned and is adjacent to large sections of publicly held lands.

Site 3 - Songdog West Campsites.
This was one of the most beautiful campsites I’ve ever stayed at. The views were stunning and it was so well maintained and we had so much privacy. The only issue I had was the giant Trump sign at the main house. Everyone has a right to their political opinions but as a black Latina woman with lots of lgbtq community I felt uncomfortable staying someplace that supports a politician that has been openly racist, sexist, homophobic, and anti-immigrant rights. Nevertheless, the host were super kind and welcoming and politics never came up. In the end we t was nice to have a positive interaction with people who probably have different views than me but it felt important to mention.

Songdog Double Fire
Jen and Jim were very accommodating! Has significant rain on the forecast so couldn’t get onto the west campsites so they let us use the other one! Been here before and glad to see this place thriving. Always recommended

Glamp Tank site
We had a wonderful time at Songdog Ranch! The property was absolutely beautiful and so well thought out. The tank site was such a fun and unique experience. We slept on the top bunk, which was roomy for two (and our dog) and warm at night with the provided propane heater on. Right outside is a table with a shade structure where we cooked breakfasts and dinners with a stunning view all around. We enjoyed a fire in the mornings and evenings with complimentary firewood that was restocked for us each day. We recommend heading out on a walk around the property, especially up on the ridge. It’s a lovely walk and if you’re lucky you may run into the owner of the property, Jim. We had the pleasure of chatting with him and learning about the region. He has a wealth of knowledge about the area and is a super nice guy. We had such an amazing time here and highly recommend it. We plan on coming back again for sure!
