Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
In 2013, I left a corporate career in search of something more meaningful. Yearning to connect consumers back to their farmers, I started a farm in my hometown of Bakersfield Our farm experience offers a no-fuss stay on a real working farm approximately 15 miles south Bakersfield. 20 acres surround you, bounded by the Tehachapi Mountains and within the San Joaquin Valley. Sites are perched on the edge of the pond, stocked with fish. Each site offers a good amount of shade for a portion of the day and has its own picnic table, water spigot and fire pit. Campers provide firewood. There is one shared, plumbed bathroom between campsites and one shared outdoor shower (with hot water). There's no electricity at your rustic home away from home, but the evening stars light up the sky. We have the following sites available: Bring Your Own (BYO) Tent Van Parking (No RVs, Trailers or Trucks with Campers) We are an organic working farm - no pesticides or herbicides are sprayed on the farm or around the camp areas. Depending on the day you stay, we may have more activity than others. We have staff on and off the farm coming and going from the farmers markets we participate in. We have working dogs that love to keep predators away at night by barking if they sense any around. We have roosters that crow, lizards, bugs and insects, bull frogs in the pond, California King snakes, and lots of birds/hawks/owls. We do our best to create an environment for all the creatures to live and thrive in the environment that's natural to them.

Great location
The accommodations were nice, the restroom was the cleanest we have been in for camping. The hot water was great especially for cold days. The dogs were so sweet esp Cleo and protected us throughout our stay. If you like camping this is a great location. We highly recommend Meredith’s land/farm to anyone.

After a long drive and brutal traffic, I pulled in later than I hoped to this lovely, tree lined path to rest my road weary bones. It seemed like magic, and despite the evening sprinkle, felt cozy and well thought out. I was so grateful for the clean loo and running water. The camp sites themselves are well thought out, and even tho I arrived late and left early and didn't have the chance to take advantage of the outdoor shower (my favorite!) or the cafe-lighted lounge area, I would definitely return. Must be toad love season haha. They were chorusing en masse. PS The super friendly big white dog was excitedly waiting to meet me at the entry gate, and slipped out when I pulled in. OOPSY! Host was gracious and reassuring, tho.

Site #6: BYO Tent, Vans Ok, No RVs
Stayed the night on our way home from Yosemite and it was perfect! The property is magical with its little pond, tall green grass and trees lining the driveway. Our 4 kids loved fishing (catch & release), hanging out with the sweetest farm dogs, catching frogs in the evening and making s’mores by the campfire. Meredith was super responsive and accommodating. Would absolutely recommend!

Pastoral and Simple!
Had a one-night at this small pastoral camp close to Hwy 99 and 5. Quiet, comfortable, and simple. Will keep in mind next time we are going over Grapevine on a trip. Thank you , Meredith!

Autonomy Farms - Campsite #3
My kids and I have stayed twice at Autonomy Farms (campsite #3), and we loved it each time. There's a little pond where we can fish (mostly bluegills and frogs from what we experienced), lots of space around the campsite, and lovely working dogs that help secure the farm. During our latest stay this past week, we had the pleasure of meeting Merideth, and we were delighted to see that one of her dogs had 4 puppies! Though I'm not certain, they appear to be cute little Great Pyrenees puppies at about a month old. They were shy at first but became playful by the end of our stay. I believe the site also offers eggs and meat from their farm if arrangements are made early enough. You can find more information on their official site: Autonomy Farms. There's also a 3-year-old YouTube interview video with Meredith at: YouTube Interview. I highly recommend this site, especially if you have children and/or if you want to just get away from the city environment/noise (cars, sirens, trains, helicopters, etc.).
