Annie’s Outpost

5 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Sierra Blanca, TX
Located just 2 miles off I-10, 8 miles to the West of Sierra Blanca, and 80 miles South/South-East of El Paso. This property is truly a part of the "OLD WEST". Sierra Blanca was named after Sierra Blanca Mountain, just North-West of town. The town came into existence when competing railroads for a second (Southern) transcontinental railroad line came within 10 miles of one another in 1881. Jay Gould, famous railroad magnate and robber baron, drove a silver spike commemorating the event on Dec. 15th 1881. The town sprang up around that spot, although the population didn't reach 350 people until 1914. It is best described as grazing land that is flat to slightly sloping terrain covered with desert sagebrush and grasses. Learn more about this land: Primitive campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat space to set up camp next to your vehicle. No shade, toilets (bring your own), or other amenities are provided at this time but are in the works. Sierra Blanca has mild winters and very hot summers but the desert can get cold at night. The weather is generally sunny but come prepared for changing conditions. This is not a commercial campground. Site is great for large groups. Larger RVs have trouble turning or parking so please no rvs over 26 ft. Bring your own toilet. Wildlife include rabbits and hares, javelina, woodcock, teal, sandhill crane, quail, pronghorn, mule deer, duck, dove, rattlesnake, rails, gallinules, and moorehens, toads and a variety of lizards.

Stargazers Paradise/Jupiter

6 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents20 acres · Dell City, TX
Hello, and thank you for coming to our little slice of Star Gazing paradise! We have put together a very unique experience for those interested in the stars and skies above! We are located in Cornudas Texas, about 45 miles from the closest Gas Station and 55 miles from the closest City, with an elevation of almost 4500 ft above sea level!. We have easy access to our site via Asphalt roadway. Being this high, it can lead to some pretty crazy temperature swings of almost 40 degrees! This area is pretty wide open, with a population density of around 1 person per 10 square miles! This provides for an incredible viewing experience for the night sky with minimal to no impact from “city” lights. We have a Bell Tent/Structure with two beds that also comes with amenities available for our guests such as a vault toilet that includes a sunroof to allow for stargazing during bathroom usage and an actual running shower built in a stand alone granite enclosure! In the desert even! In addition to our structure, we also have tent sites and for those that are traveling with their own vehicles/over the road homes, we also have 2 spots in a safe environment for you to recharge and be ready to hit things bright and early come first light! Located close to El Paso, New Mexico, the Mexican border we have plenty of local attractions for you to venture out for days trips! One of the great things about this area is that it is a great spot for Space enthusiasts as well as being near Spaceport USA, Blue Origin, Davis mountain Observatory, Sunspot Observatory, Roswell, and White sands missile launch facilities! To help aid in the stargazing experience, we have multiple options to serve the needs of the most experienced to the beginner! We have an excavated viewing pits. During the day the natural rock and granite used for construction absorbs the heat to help keep you warm during the cooler nights. Because we are in a desert environment, caution must be taken! Some of the animals that you might observe during your stay include, but not limited too: Native prairie dogs, Porcupine, Chipmunks, jackrabbits, coyote, bobcats, antelope, mule deer, horned toads, Owls, roadrunners, Quail and Dove, Night hawks, lizards, bats, and of course, Rattlesnakes, scorpions, and spiders! Please be respectful not only of the animals on site, but also the vegetation. We will have a small “store” on site for basic items should they be needed. A smaller tent/structure is also available for an additional charge should our current setup not be large enough to fit the whole family! We are a totally off grid site. We have solar on site to power the shower facilities, charge your phones in the tent, small fans in the tent, and the hand wash station.

No Man's Land!

View the eclipse! Challenge the bumpy road to escape society on raw mountain desert land to the middle of nowhere? Deer, horse, rabbit, hogs, etc. Camping under the stars, connecting to with nature, pick sage, mesquite, cactus and other naturally grown bushes and stones all you want! Cell signal! Peaceful. It is very important that the information here is also published on the ad or they could end up on a dead end road or a locked gate. There is a gate leading to the property, yet isn't locked....it's so that the cows will not escape so it's important that it is noted to close the gate behind them. That gate is also the best entrance to the property. Also, an AWD or 4X4 is recommended yet, not necessary. The Ranch Block 71, Section 31, North Half of Lot 1 Driving Directions: From Interstate 10 and the County Seat of Sierra Blanca, you will drive north on paved Route 1111 for about 18 miles. At the Gunsight Ranches Sign, you will turn left and follow the maintained gravel road straight west for 6 miles to the Cattle Guard Entrance Gate to the Gunsight Ranches. From the Cattle Guard Entrance Gate continue straight and drive West another 1.92 miles. Take the bend to the left, heading Southwest and drive for 0.22 miles. Make a left onto Cheyenne Road and drive South for about 5.75 miles. At the fork in the road take the road to the left and drive East for 1.14 miles. Here you will cross a cattle guard and enter the Ranch. In another 0.36 mile at 31°20'41.04"N, 105°27'20.60"W turn right and drive South for 0.46 miles. At 31°20'20.96"N, 105°27'20.54"W turn right and drive West for 1.4 miles. From here the Southeast corner of the property will be 0.25 miles to the North. Before driving to one of our properties using our GPS coordinates for guidance, be sure that you understand which system your handheld GPS navigation system is set up to use. On this website we use the traditional Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS) system. Your device can probably be set to use any of the commonly used systems. It will have to be set to use the Degrees Minutes Seconds system in order to be consistent with our coordinates, or if you wish to use a different system such as Degrees Decimal Minutes or Decimal Degrees, we will be happy to convert our coordinates for you into whatever system you need. But it is crucial that you use coordinates that are consistent with the settings in your handheld navigation device. If your navigation device is not using the same system as the coordinates that you are using for reference, you will end up in the wrong locatio

South Lobo, Texas

4 sites · RVs6 acres · Van Horn, TX
Learn more about this land:This land is located on about 6 acres of Chihuahuan desert land, about 1 mile directly south of the old ghost town of Lobo (which is why this place is called South Lobo), which is about 17 miles south of I-10 at Van Horn, Texas. The Rio Grande valley is about 15 miles to the west of this site, and about 2 miles east is Chispa Mountain (about 1200 feet higher than the surrounding country). Some day I hope to operate a small interfaith chapel and emergency water station (this land is located about 15 miles as the crow flies from Mexico) but for now it is just a beautiful bit of country for camping. You can learn more about our mission by searching for "South Lobo, Texas."My pricing is per vehicle (since this is the most environmentally impactful thing that happens on this place), which means that primitive campers who are not parking on the property can camp for free (one extra camping space is reserved for primitive campers). There is no power or water on site and minimal shade. You are welcome to hike, mountain bike, explore, etc but ATV's are not allowed (except on the dirt road). This is also a great location for railfans (Amtrak goes through here six times per week while going between San Antonio and Los Angeles, but there is also some freight traffic) but also for stargazers and ham radio operators (very low electrical noise levels).Safety wise: The Border Patrol is frequently in this area, so please do not be surprised if they come by and say hello while you are camping. If they ask about your presence, tell them you are camping with the permission of the landowner. Other than the border patrol, you are unlikely to encounter any other people. The biggest danger out here is dehydration. Be sure and bring more water than you think you'll need as it is a long drive back to Van Horn. (and if you have any extra left, please consider leaving it behind for emergency use from refugees who may be passing through)Lots of things to see and do in the area --- Van Horn is a nice town (with some decent food, stores, etc.). The famous Prada Marfa isn't far away and of course there is the ghost town in Lobo (where they occasionally have film festivals and other events). Lots of folks pass through this area heading to Big Bend and other points further out. Please do your best to clean up your camp site when you leave so that this unique landscape will be preserved for future visitors to see and experience.
