Wahoo serves as an inviting outpost for campers drawn to Nebraska’s rich blend of landscapes and recreational opportunities. Branched Oak State Recreation Area, the largest of its kind in eastern Nebraska, is a haven for campers and boaters just 30 minutes from Wahoo. The 1,800-acre lake is also a prime spot for fishing and water sports. There are over 300 campsites here, including options with electric hookups, showers, and dump stations. Schramm Park State Recreation Area, known for its wooded bluffs along Platte River, provides a more secluded camping experience. Campgrounds here are shared with Platte River State Park and feature 31 camper cabin rentals with partial climate control, 21 modern cabins with kitchenettes and bathrooms, glamping tents, as well as traditional pet-friendly campsites with back-in and pull-through spots that have full hookups. Notable hiking trails in both parks include the Aksarben Aquarium’s scenic trails and the Platte River Trail—accessible by foot or bike.
