Camp near Oshkosh to discover rugged evergreen canyons and the state’s largest reservoir.
Among the vast prairie grasslands and rocky bluffs of western Nebraska, the Oshkosh area is an excellent spot for unforgettable camping adventures. A short drive east of town leads to several campgrounds lining the northern shoreline of Lake McConaughy, Nebraska’s largest reservoir. The State Recreation Area (SRA) offers full hookup campsites and back-in RV sites for big rigs up to 60 feet long. Amenities are also plentiful and include showers, flush toilets, picnic tables, and ground grills. Beach camping is another option, especially if anglers are in the group—these campsites offer access to terrific walleye and Northern pike fishing and fish-cleaning stations at Martin Bay, Otter Creek, and Cedar View. For a more rustic camping experience, head about 85 miles west of Oshkosh to Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area. Escape to tent camping under the stars, with primitive restrooms and drinking water available by the Nature Center. Then, explore over 1,000 acres of wilderness, surrounded by rocky bluffs marked by centuries-old ponderosa pine and Rocky Mountain juniper trees.
