It really is paradise
Val and Jami have got it figured out. The word “paradise” in their listing is not marketing hyperbole.
My family and our friends were spread widely across the camping-or-glamping continuum. So we appreciated that our bed-lovers could stay in the treehouse while the hardcore campers could sleep in a tent nearby. And the treehouse is the most adorable, thoughtfully appointed, magical dwelling! Our bed-lovers slept well.
The main event at this site is not, oddly, this magnificent piece of eclectic architecture. It’s the lake, with its calm, glassy waters bejeweled with 11 tiny islands! Kayaking or canoeing was a new activity to most of our party (including some children), but we quickly embarked on adventures all over the lake. There are only a few other properties on the lake, and a nearby road with little traffic, so most of the time you feel like you’re in the wilds of Maine or Vermont, not in CT just a short drive from NYC, Boston, and everywhere in-between.
While the experience IS rustic (this is HipCAMP after all), Val and Jami included countless thoughtful little touches that we greatly appreciated: plenty of potable water in jugs, a fully stocked outdoor kitchen, delicious little chocolate-chip pies as welcome presents, fire-making supplies, and Sweet ‘n Low. (I mean, we like nature, but some aspects of civilization are indispensable, however unlikely they are to be remembered while packing).
To glide across those rippled waters, reflecting a blue sky dotted with cumulus clouds, or to sit around the fire pit at dusk telling stories and singing songs, was paradise for us. Thank you, Val and Jami, for helping us disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature and each other.
Tree house is rustic sanctuary
The tree house was a really great place. It was exactly as advertised. The hosts were extremely friendly and responsive, just the right balance between giving us space and checking in to see if we needed anything. We had a gorgeous day on Saturday, we used the kayaks, paddle boards, canoe, and tires in the lake. I loved the fact that the firepit and the picnic table were both covered so you could enjoy the outdoors even if it was raining.
We got to see a Blue Heron and what I think were swooping swallows skimming the lake and other birds I couldn't identify.
A couple of tips: There were some mosquitoes at night, so be prepared with spray and anti-itch cream but that comes with the territory, it was nothing out of the ordinary. Also, if you plan on grilling, you might want to bring a few of your own cooking supplies.
The perfect stay!
Pictures of this beautiful location don't do it justice! What a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Val and Jami have gone out of their way to make certain everyone staying here has everything they need - and then some. With swimming, kayaking, hiking, or just relaxing in the hammock or around the firepit, there is nothing missing. I will definitely be back!
