There is plenty of peaceful privacy, yet we are just a few minutes away from "downtown" an adorable, progressive town, with some cute shops + amazing restaurants [River Tavern, Grano, Otto's Pizza, Riverside Thai]. For a killer cup of coffee, head to Sprouted downtown, where they brew up our own freshly roasted beans or for delicious breakfast, check out our friend Hedy's place, the Whistle Stop Cafe in Deep River. Cockaponset State Forest, the second largest state forest in Connecticut, is also just minutes away. The shoreline is about a 10 minute drive with beaches stretched along the coast in either direction.
Pitch a tent out in the meadow or along the shady tree-line. Enjoy a fire in our bonfire pit complete with a ring of wood stumps for hanging out or maybe even an stump dance party [weirder things have happened]. Lay out by + swim in the freshwater pool, [[pool is open June//July//August]] jump on the trampoline, visit the backyard chickens, pick fruit + berries when in season, make pizza in the outdoor brick oven or play horse shoes. We offer a large shade structure with a picnic table + a few chairs. Alternatively, the shade tent can be used to erect your tent under for extra protection from the elements.
We have lots of wildlife that comes through including owls, hawks, turkeys, ravens, plus over 100 other birding species sighted on property. Deer, chipmunks, fox [don't worry they're afraid of people] + many more wander through from time to time.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Great space. Pool to swim in, trampoline to jump on and fire pit to cook on. Plus a pizza oven. We had a great time. Our kids loved every minute and despite the rain on our last day didn’t want to go home. Will definitely come again.
Our group of 8 had an amazing time at the Domeland camp site. The property was beautiful, and we had so much fun channeling our inner child by jumping on the trampoline, riding down the zipline, and swimming all day in the freshwater pool. This is definitely more of a glamping experience, which we were definitely all about. Access to the guest bathroom/showers were a plus, and kept us feeling comfortable throughout our stay. Also the fire pit is huge and well kept. Wood and fresh water was provided throughout our stay as well. Melissa was a great host, and kept in contact when we needed her (like when a bunch of us couldn't figure out the pizza oven, she let us hop onto her grill to finish up our meal). Overall it was a wonderful stay, and we all hope to return again.
My family and I had an awesome time here. It was more of a glamping experience, something that we did not expect but turned out to be very fun. Although we were in a backyard, it was spacious enough to be very private. The brick oven was very convenient, and made great pizza! The pool was wonderful to swim in. I swam in the middle of the night, and the stars shined oh so brightly! Look up at night to count the endless stars! The trampoline channelled our inner "child."
The indoor bathroom was very convenient. The host was very respectful and nice.
What a pleasant vacation we had.
We were looking for a place with a hot shower and a bathroom for our comfort, a firm request from our daughter who just came back from two weeks of sailing camp. We also looked for some place we could entertain during possible rain.
This camp site was perfect for our needs. In a spacious backyard of 4.5 acre property, we could pitch our tent nicely and for compromised weather, we could just moved our tent under a white canopy they provided for us to use. That canopy was our comfortable living space with their well-water, a picnic table and some chairs, With the permission, we picked ripen peaches for healthy dessert. Cooling off after our local excursions was also nice. Although, it was a backyard, unlike typical campsite, It was secure and very private. it was rather secluded and we enjoyed enough nature: wild turkeys, dear, bats, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, frogs to name a few.
The property was close from near by not only the charming town of Chester, but also Haddam where you could enjoy a quick ferry ride crossing Connecticut River to Goodspeed Opera House. Gillette Castle was a must to viisit. We have enjoyed visiting a couple of state parks near by for hiking, biking, swimming, etc. we’ve stayed for 4 nights, but we could’ve stayed longer to explore the area more.
Thanks to our host Melissa and Christiaan who were quite informative about the area, we could enjoyed our time in the area a lot more than we could have without their suggestions.
So all in all, this campsite was a good match for our need. I think, this place is better for a family with kids to enjoy nature with convenience as well as other options to explore beside outdoor activities.
Convenient location good for groups
Convenient location next to the highway and a cute downtown area and a large lawn space that's good for a large group since you can have up to 3 tents. Nice, well maintained pool area with lots of space for lounging. Great hikes and some nice small beaches nearby make for great excursions. Directions to the site were very clear. We never met Melissa but she provided contact information for her brother, Hugh if we needed anything during our stay. His welcome was icy- just showed us the bathroom and where to park and the rest was up to us to figure out, but we were emailed clear guidelines for our stay from Melissa so besides feeling unwelcome it wasn't much of a problem. The water provided in the jug and tap water in the bathroom had an off-putting smell and taste so our group would recommend bringing your own drinking water. Also try to find wood nearby instead of buying from Melissa- we purchased two bundles which were small and unseasoned (wet).
We had a great time at Melissa and Chris' place! In addition to the ample camping space, fire pit, and pool, they even had a nice sheltered area with picnic table and chairs, which came in handy when it rained. Definitely felt more like glamping :) Thanks for having us!
The Dome was a hit. This backyard property makes you feel safe, while being nestled in a coastal Connecticut forest. Plenty of spots to choose for tent, camper, or hammock camping. 10-20 minutes from beaches, New Haven, Yale University, water sports on the Connecticut River, state parks, waterfalls, seasonal markets, AND MORE. How could you possibly want more than Melissa and her family offer? They are kind, accommodating, and thorough. And waking up the the freshwater pool was a dream.
This was an amazing site! I could have stayed here all summer. The property was beautiful, spacious, and well-designed. The hosts were so kind and helpful! The pool was amazing. We set up our tent between two trees for shade and the weather was absolutely beautiful so we left the rain fly off the tent and could see the full moon rising over us. I would recommend this place a million times over!
