The vibe at Flirtation Farms
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Flirtation Farms was a great camping experience. The location I booked was down a hill past the meadow, but they do offer RV camping as well. There is a little barn on the path down to the site where you can access electricity and WiFi. Unfortunately there were some pretty strong storms the day before and a squall an hour before we arrived. Due to the hill, it got a lot of run off and the ground was really soggy. The nice part of that location is that it is set back from the road under some trees. Eventually there will be a platform tent. For the short term though, keep in mind the weather pattern as you book.
The good news is that there is higher ground closer to the house where the host let us pitch our tents. It's a little less quiet due to street noise, but I cannot complain since the ground was much drier there and we didn't have to walk in our gear. (There are small tractors for hauling your gear to the site, if you don't want to carry it in. It's actually a short walk and it's easy to make multiple trips.) There is potable water available from a well and it tastes pretty good. There is a moveable fire ring and dry wood. Because of the rain, our hosts were awesome and provided a Duraflame log as a starter. There is also a picnic table and benches that the host was glad to reposition for us.
There are two water features on and near the farm. One is a super cute pond with Adirondack chairs, but also a lovely public lake about 10 minutes walk away (Lake Waramaug). During the summer, the lake is temperate and a lovely swim. Just mind the rocks in the sand. My friend got a few minor cuts on her foot, so small she only noticed them in the morning.
The host and her family are really great. We got a little amuse bouche fresh cherry tomato from their garden farm to munch on while we unpacked the car. I cannot say enough good things about the hospitality of our host and the wonderful location. The little wood stump with moss and flowers was created by the host. The site is in really good proximity to Kent, CT and lots of cute small towns in the area. You could spend an arm and a leg for a bed and breakfast, but for me, being able to access a campsite that isn't crowded and has some quietude was fantastic.
Their location is very close to the town of Washington Depot, CT where the market has a really great selection of food and especially fancy cheeses. The town also has a well-stocked hardware store where we picked up an extra tarp just in case. There is another grocery store in Kent, CT called Davis IGA. You can call ahead and order deli sandwiches (hot and cold) and coffee fixed to order. The staff at the IGA are really nice and our orders were made exactly to spec.
