Welcome to Tin Canyon Farm.
"Wherever you stand, be the soul of that place” - Rumi
You’ll be staying in a spacious, well-lit 2nd-floor guest house on a small farm with views of the San Juan Mountain range, a natural spring, a seasonal creek, and LOTS of trails within walking distance. It’s a short drive to the resorts and less than 20 minutes from the deepest hot springs in the world. You're sure to enjoy the peaceful mountain valley setting. Horses welcome but space is limited so please inquire in advance if you’re bringing horses (up to 2).
More about Tin Canyon Farm:
We are in the middle of rehabbing a defunct miniature horse farm on a beautiful property nestled in a tiny mountain valley in a subdivision called Aspen Springs.
You may see us working on the farm doing things from rehabbing the old barn, digging the new garlic beds, putting up fencing, or tending to our snails. Did I mention we raise escargot?
Our owner is a Chef so don't be surprised by a goodie or two. Catered add-ons are sometimes available (just check out our guest handbook for info).
This cozy yet spacious guest house has gorgeous views of the mountains all around and access to the 100+ acre Green Belt which partially borders the BLM. The green belt is an open area accessible to everyone who lives around it. You can walk, ride, bike etc...
You'll have access to the guest house and attached deck which is fabulous for star gazing.
The Aspen Springs subdivision in Pagosa Springs is a rather large rural area with a very eclectic group of folks. We have independent spirits here who are everything from homesteaders, horse lovers, business owners, sheepherders, and more. Those of us who settle here do so for the diverse nature of the area and the people around us. To each their own and to each their life.
There’s plenty of wonderfully diverse wildlife* around here, too; please observe mindfully. We are in the middle of a pretty intense bear season so be sure to read the house rules (e.g. where to put trash, etc.).
The immediate neighborhood is full of trails and access to the Green Belt and BLM land. Currently, we only have two (relatively) close neighbors and have lots of land around us to roam. Please be mindful of property lines; if you stick to the main roads, you’ll be just fine. If you have any questions about where to hike or explore on the public land, just let us know! We are happy to share resources and tips. If you're here in the warmer months, the San Juan river has a lot to offer from SUP, kayaking, rafting, fishing, and tubing. If you're here in the winter months, Wolf Creek and Purgatory aren't too far away for epic skiing and/or snowboarding. If you're into the more unusual, this area has been purported to be a hotbed of UFO sightings*. And, of course, the deepest hot springs in the world are available year-round. We appreciate your kindness and look forward to having you as our guests!
From our farm, it’s an easy 46 miles from Durango-La Plata County Airport, 12 miles from Chimney Rock, 11 minutes from the Parelli campus, 13 minutes from town, less than 20 minutes from our favorite hot springs, 40 min from the Tara Mandala Buddhist Retreat, 45 minutes to Wolf Creek, 57 miles from the Continental Divide (stunning views).
Other things to note:
If you're a Parelli student, you are welcome to bring up to two horses if we have the room. Please let us know at booking.
Children are not permitted to interact with the horses or other parts of the farm without the property owner escort.
