Winter is coming - come explore the last remaining bits of Autumn before winter swoops in!

UPDATE: All but a sprinkling of Autumn colors have blown from the trees. Nights are currently chilly (20's and 30's) with bright, crisp and sometimes breezy Fall days ranging from the 50's to 70's. We're awaiting the coming Winter and fitting in as much outdoors as we can until its arrival. Camp Penguin would love to have you visit if you're still eager to fit in some outside fun and relaxation ahead of the coming Winter.

Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenuing) is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, 90 minutes from Colorado Springs and just under an hour from Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities.  We have more than 10 site options, however due to social distancing and to allow for better guest privacy, we will host only 3-4 groups at a time. Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle.

Upon arrival campers will be greeted by Hosts and together can choose the site that works best for them. Several sites are available next to our quaint little pond, or on the ridge overlooking the pond. Campers can also choose to camp in one of the nearby aspen groves, or even in the towering pines on the upper side of the property (the pine sites require hiking to access). Each site provides its own unique beauty, most with an amazing view of the west side of Pikes Peak in the distance.

Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35 acres. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands). Additionally we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures!  Some of these inlcude Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florrisant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheynne Mountain Zoo,  Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey.  Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. To avoid disappointment, please do your own research prior to arrival)!

Guests need to be self-sustaining to camp here as there are no facilities nearby (gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, etc). But, if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway to commune with nature, a chance to see wildlife and watch the Autumn colors fill the area.... we're your place - book your visit now!!!

This was such an amazing place to stay. We got in late and Tim actually met us at the road entrance so we wouldn’t miss it. Got to wake up to a gorgeous pond and terrific scenery! The hosts were amazingly kind and welcoming. The property is beautiful and large enough to feel private and safe at the same time. As much as I would like to keep this place all to myself, I’d be amiss not to give a huge thank you, kudos, and we will certainly be back!!!!!

It was wonderful! Super friendly hosts who greeted us with homemade cookies :) Very quiet, peaceful. We camped in a little aspen grove. The stars were amazing!! Highly recommended. There are 2 ways to get to their place-- Hwy 2A is the "back road," which the GPS led us to. It is super windy and not good for all 2WD cars. Hwy 2 is the main road and is flat gravel.

Thanks Avalon - so glad you enjoyed your visit! Would enjoy having you both come stay again in the future. We've made a note in our directions reference GPS routing folks to 88/2A to help avoid confusion in the future. Thanks again...

My fiance and I had a fabulous time here. It's easy to get to, our hosts were absolutely lovely, greeting us when we arrived and provided everything we could need. We camped by the pond and creek which made for lovely background noise. We were also able to spot many deer during our stay, some horses, gophers or prairie dogs, and heard coyotes. We loved it, but just know you will see plenty of wildlife!
