Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.

THAT MOUNTAIN VIEW THO... Use the Butler Airport main entrance (off County Rd 69) and follow the road (Airport Rd) for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Beech Boulevard and follow road for approximately .5 miles to the intersection of Beech Blvd and W Falcon Cir E. Take a left turn on W Falcon Cir E and follow to the end of the cull de sac. As you approach the end of the cull de sac (facing a distant castle-style home and away from the mountains) the 5 acre plot to your RIGHT is land you can occupy. I always stay on the cull de sac when I camp. The 5.5-acre lot (#41) sits on the south end of the Butler Airport located off the intersection of Beech Blvd and W Falcon Cir E. The road consists of compacted gravel and dirt, it is maintained (leveled and trimmed) by the HOA but the lot itself remains a little more primitive and unkempt. The taller grass in the area is an ideal feeding/resting spot for heard of Pronghorn deer. Coyotes can also be heard from a distance at night. RV’s and pop-up campers should have no problem driving on the roads or cull de sac at the end of W Falcon Cir, and should even be able to drive around the lot with little to no-problem as it relatively flat. There are dumpsters located along Beech Boulevard to throw away trash. The views and stargazing are amazing and you will find it difficult for the mountain range to leave your eye, but keep in mind this is an open grass lot with no shade or sun cover so I also recommend bringing equipment for shade/cover. Also, noteworthy, each of the neighbors are a minimum of 5 acres apart from lot #41, one of them is the President of the HOA, the other is a Dorito shaped Airb&b property.PLEASE READ FOR PROPERTY DETAILS AND ENTRANCE INSTRUCTIONS: This plot is home to Silverwest/Westcliffe, a proud Dark Sky Community member that can be found near the south end of the private-use Butler Airport, tucked behind county Rd 69 overlooking uninterrupted valleys and the astonishing Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Sitting at roughly 8,000 ft in elevation, views of the Wet Mountains can be seen from the east, the Sangres to the west, the Collegiate Peaks from the north, and the Spanish Peaks in the south. As mentioned, this is a Dark Sky Community meaning it has shown exceptional dedication to the preservation of the night sky through the implementation and enforcement of a quality outdoor lighting ordinance, community backed and supported education efforts, and legally protected to maintain the integrity of the sky range for everyone’s viewing pleasures and stargazing fantasies. More notable outdoor activities within the area include horseback riding, llama trekking, Mission: Wolf Sanctuary, various hiking trails ( Music Pass, Rainbow Trail, Lake of the Clouds ), and of course visiting Bluff Park to see the Smokey Jack Observatory and experience an amazing sunset or marvel at the Milky Way. Westcliffe has that nurturing, embraceful mountain town feel with various forms of local entertainment and dining options from weekend festivals, bowling, theatre, galleries, pizza, ice cream, with several great Coffee shops to choose from. One other item of note: In south-central Colorado, this area is perfectly situated for all kinds of day trips to destinations including Great Sand Dunes National Park, Royal Gorge Region, Monarch Mountain, Salida, and Buena Vista.

Sangre De Cristo Views

Prairie camping w/ mountain views!

Our group really enjoyed camping on Cody's land. The views of the Sangre de Cristo range was spectacular at sunset and sunrise. The dark skies are simply incredible as one can see the Milky Way, constellations, and a bonus treat for us - a SpaceX StarLink line of satellites! Directions to Cody's land is very easy if you use the XY pin on the app. Neighbors are not too near so there is a degree of privacy certainly but keep in mind, it was wide open prairie. Would highly recommend this site for future HipCampers!

Sangre De Cristo Views

Seclusion in the wide open space

Cody's Lot 41 camp was great for us. We wanted to get way away from everything and this was it. Wide open field with no shade, but we camped over new years & enjoyed the heck out of it. A couple of items to take note of: 1) the road names on goggle do not match the actual road sign names. Cody ensured that the red dot on the 'google directions' button was correctly placed. Also, there is a map within the images posted that shows right where lot 41 is located. 2) Be advised that you'll be in a wide open field with very little protection from the wind and shade. This was no issue for us, but know that you'll likely be getting some level of wind out there. The property is adjacent to a VFR airstrip. We were able to see a few small private aircraft take off & land. Overall, we really enjoyed staying out there & exploring Westcliffe and Walsenburg. I will keep this one bookmarked for us. Oh - There is also a wolf sanctuary about 30 miles south of Cody's spot. We wound up spending a whole day there. (missionwolf .org)

Remote, dark, quiet. Not much to it, but it is really close to great hiking. I saw multiple shooting stars. Spectacular.

Sangre De Cristo Views

Pull off and take in the view!

Great spot to pull off while on the road! Easy to find if you follow directions and though there are houses in sight, it’s still far enough way to feel private. I drove into town and stopped in Bootleggers which had great food and good people! The view of the mountains and the stars was absolutely gorgeous! On my drive out at sunrise I saw lots of wildlife and somehow no people which was a nice break from reality. Highly recommend!
