A quick 7 minute drive to Cripple Creek where many tourist attractions await- mining tours, gold panning, gambling, restaurants, railroad tours and more; 10-15 min from several popular hikes, Mueller State and Dome Rock parks; 40 minutes from the Fossil Beds in Florissant and Wolf Sanctuary. Water can be hauled from a natural spring 2.5 miles away. Area wildlife includes bear, deer, elk, mountain lions and big horn sheep. Sorry, no campers/trailers or RVs. Erica's place is a nice private and primitive site. Gorgeous view of the sunset and a good amount of space to park your tent! You have to drive past a few areas with no trespassing signs but if you follow Erica's directions you'll get there just fine.

Amazing view, great ground upkeep, not much cell service
Fun place to camp
Brown Dog's lookout was great! especially when compared to the average public campground. Erika was great! easy to contact and quick to respond. She even put out a grill for us before we arrived. The site was clean and had a nice view.
The spot was perfect for our group of 3! We had space for 1 SUV, 2 tents, & 1 shade tent. We stayed 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you!
When you want to slow down time, find complete solitude, reconnect with nature and to unwind then the Brown Dog Lookout is where you need to be. Off-grid camping at its finest. The host provided a propane grill and cute table with shade, you need to bring everything else. I'm the first to admit, I'm bad at directions, but once I found this place, it was well worth it. Erica, the host was great at communicating with me. Amazing views of the meadows and mountains and the herd of big horn sheep!

Erica's spot was lovely! Plenty of trees around the clearing, we were on a hill overlooking a small valley. It felt very remote, even though we had passed houses and RVs along the way! No animal sightings, although we did hear an owl in the middle of the night! Would highly recommend!
This campsite was just as we expected. It was very secluded and had plenty of space for our car and large tent. The views into the valley were beautiful and the stars were amazing at night.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the solitude on the mountain. Overall, a great campsite, only a few things we thought could have been improved. The directions getting to the spot were not as clear as they could be. No signage once you reach a certain fork in the road. Worth making a second “Brown Dog’s Lookout” sign so future campers know which driveway to take. No need for the mile markers in written directions too, just mention the landmarks to make this back mountain road less confusing. There were beer cans and old fallen down barbwire fencing around the site. The fire pit was full of ash from previous campers and the ground around the site was very uneven. We are not high maintenance and it didn’t ruin our time! Loved the view of the pond bellow and the dogs had fun playing and running up and down the hill!
