If you're looking for a private, rustic spot, this is the place for you. Beautiful fields with mountains in the distance, and your only neighbors will be some curious horses in the next pasture.

There are no facilities, so it's more important than ever to come prepared and follow leave no trace principles.

We built a small fire pit that Eric, the host, let us leave standing for future visitors, so look for it on the right side of the dirt road. Speaking of the road, you might want to make sure you've got 4wheel drive and watch the weather—could be hard to get outta there after some heavy rain.

Nice place to camp if you're looking for solitudeStarting a fire as the sun starts to go down and the temperature dropsThe first of two gates you'll need to pass through to access the property.Last of the daylight

Extraordinary solitude on an open plain with mountain vistas and multiple options for landing a tent. Visits from deer and hummingbirds. Everyone should be able to spend a day a year out here.

Plenty of interesting flora.Plenty of places to locate a tent in the field away from the shrub line above Alkali Gulch. This 2nd gate to pass through gets you onto the Second Wind site.A sleeping pad would be handy on this ground, but not absolutely necessary.
