Beautiful solitude with Mt. Blanca and the Great Sand Dunes within view. Only a 40 minute drive from both to include Zapata Falls.
Fishing is 30 minutes north at San Luis Lakes or 15 minutes south at Blanca Wetlands. We live in what is called the "Dry Lakes" region, thus qualifying us as a high desert. Prickly pear available during summer Cattails are in the wetlands.
Wetlands can be accessed with a hour hike south hiking through a desert that you will most likely have all to yourself at most times.

Great camp site with an amazing view. The hosts were very kind and responsive. It’s about 30 - 40 mins to the Dunes and Zapata Falls. The experience exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay here again!
This is an incredible campsite. The views are stunning, the privacy is unparalleled, and the scenery transports you to what feels like another planet. The site is also conveniently located between the sand dunes and Alamosa.
This is a perfect, private, safe, and just interesting place to pitch your tent before seeing the Sand Dunes! Keith was such a great host, very communicative and accommodating. As a solo traveler it can be nerve-racking when camping out by yourself, but the two beautiful dogs and the hospitality made me feel so safe. I highly recommend for a private getaway or a large group!
This place is truly one-of-a-kind. about 30 minutes off of the paved road but I was still able to make it with my Fiat 500L (i'll wait here while you Google image search my car and have a good laugh). if you like no running water and surviving on the land this is your kind of spot! host provides small amount of firewood (check for burn bans first) and water in case you need to rinse dishes, but otherwise remember to pack out EVERY kind of waste you bring with you (preserve the land). Quick drive to sand dunes, beautiful vista, and awesome doggos that have great manners. Totally would stay here again.
The campsite had a terrific view of the Sangre De Christos. It was easy to find with the directions from the host. There were three dogs running around the property that were very friendly. The site itself has a nice fire ring and a flat cleared area the set up the tent. We enjoyed our stay very much!
