We offer safari like tours (you follow us in your car and we lead you to local areas) to see wild Mustang horses, alpaca, donkey and more! We have never gone on a ride without finding the wild bands of horses! Sometimes up to a hundred! Our home is located next to pasture, please let us know if there’s anything we can assist with! Learn more about this land: Seclusion and tranquility. We are on a dirt road, offering unique views and privacy. We provide the land, a fire ring and outhouse, you provide the rest! *We have 2 horses, therapeutically trained on site and 1 very friendly dog.   *We are an off-grid homestead, run completely off solar power.   *Veteran owned and operated. Cannabis Friendly.   Join us for events such as; tours of the local wild mustang bands, Equine music circles, meditation hikes and more! LOCAL ATTRACTIONS A must do! Soak in the mineral, spring fed hot waters at Hooper hot springs and pool. Great for families and also offers a 21+ only section in a large beautiful greenhouse with a bar and grill.  Offers showers and laundry facilities. There are also 2 other hot springs a bit further down the valley, including, Joyful journey Hot springs and Spa and the Orient Land Trust (clothing optional at all times) Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve’s visitor center-to learn how these seemingly inexplicable dunes — North America’s tallest and one of the newest Dark Sky Parks, as rated by the International Dark-Sky Association for excellent stargazing opportunities — came to nestle against the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Then, play on Colorado’s most unique “beach” — Medano Creek; and check out Zapata Falls, a cool respite in the summer and a giant ice sculpture in the winter.  Blanca Vista Park is a locals’ favorite for its picnic areas, wildlife spotting, well-maintained singletrack trails for mountain biking and views of the Great Sand Dunes from the park’s Crestone Trail. Detour to Hwy. 17 and check out two unusual spots:  Colorado Gators Reptile Park, where you can see and even handle some of the more than 300 alligators and other scaly critters; and the UFO Watchtower, a local attraction providing information on the valley’s surprising number of UFO sightings. To many American Indians, Mount Blanca is sacred ground. At 14,345 feet — the fourth-highest peak in Colorado — Mount Blanca watches over the sunny community that shares its name. Blanca provides a welcome stop along the Los Caminos Antiguos Scenic Byway, a driving tour tying together several small towns, old military forts, Colorado's oldest church and plenty of friendly residents. Blanca sits just west of the preserved Fort Garland, once commanded by famed frontiersman Kit Carson. Today, visitors can explore the fort's adobe buildings and the parade ground. Permanent exhibits focus on black soldiers in the military and the varied careers — including scout, government courier, Indian agent and soldier — of the legendary Kit Carson.

Serene Desert, Mountains & Horses
The Pros: The views of Blanca Peak are incredible. The hosts are very responsive. The Cons: The campsite is located in a corral within 200 yards of the owner's residence. You will find an actual parking spot just inside the entry gate to the corral. This campsite is uniquely unsuitable for anyone planning to deploy a rooftop or trailer mounted tent, or anyone who values a true primitive outdoor camping experience. Thoughts: Shame on me for not doing better due diligence. But the existing photos underemphasize these realities, and in my view, limitations. Even in the face of these limitations, this could be a solid choice for those camping with kids, those who need a passenger car accessible campsite, or those who don't put a premium on a true wilderness experience.

Serene Desert, Mountains & Horses
This was my first time in the San Luis Vally and it was magical. I visited in the off season (early November) and I booked this site pretty last minute, the day of if I’m not mistaken. There are a lot of options in this area, not only on Hipcamp but boondocking and hotels as well. What stood out to me about this listing was all the detailed descriptions of the camp site and recommendations for hikes and activities in the area. I ended up staying in the valley a extra few days exploring a lot of the places and activities Ella recommended. I highly suggest Joyful Journey hot springs for a soak after hiking the sand dunes. Seeing as it was the off season, I encountered some weather related bumps in the road but the hosts were right on top of it. I can’t stress enough how responsive they were anytime I reached out. I’ve stayed at a lot of Hipcamps and it’s kind of a roll of the dice whether you’re gunna get good hosts but these folks are top notch! I had decent enough Verizon service that I felt safe if something went sideways. I would recommend and hopefully will be back myself!

Beautiful spot! The owners were friendly and welcoming! We had to leave early for a sunrise hike but wish we could of stayed another night. They have a big friendly guard dog too

Serene Desert, Mountains & Horses
Serene Desert Mountain and Horses is a minimalist’s choice for a low-key, relaxed Hipcamp. During our short stay at SDMH, my husband and I pitched a tent between the fire-ring and the outhouse. The camping plot was well-maintained, clean, and easily accessed from the parking area. The simple bathroom facility was also clean, and, just outside, a sink was provided. The grounds of SDMH are open with gorgeous, dramatic views of the rugged landscape and mountain range. From the campsite, you can see for miles and miles. My husband and I were the only campers on the property, but I could tell the plot would be perfectly adequate to accommodate many campers and tents. Aside from admiring the beautiful, natural scenery, my husband and I also enjoyed meeting two very friendly horses on the property. Also worth mentioning about our stay was the excellent communication of our host, Ela. She was very responsive and flexible which we sincerely appreciated. Thank you, Ela! A quiet location with wide, open space, Serene Desert Mountain and Horses is a nice place to spend an evening. It was a pleasure visiting this Hipcamp.

Serene Desert, Mountains & Horses
Stunning Views, Quiet Campsite
Serene Desert offers amazing views, a quiet location, and friendly hosts. Our kindergartener loved feeding apples to the horses, and the hosts' dog Beethoven was adorable and sweet. He was a little rambunctious for a small child unused to big dogs, but he was well-behaved and we adults loved him. We were the only guests the week we were there, and appreciated access to firewood and the composting toilet. The camp is within a reasonable drive of the Sand Dunes, several hot springs, Fort Garland, San Luis, and Blanca. We hope to return!

Your horses made our day!
The views were incredible and it was so nice to have a fire pit and outhouse. Thank you also for letting us say hi to the horses many times. The fire pit is a bit of a 4-wheel drive from road so it was a bit of work to unload and in unwieldy drive to park the car to protect ourselves from the wind.
