If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The sites were surrounded by some clutter and old scrap, but there was still room alotted to pitch a tent. The juniper trees were very pretty, and walking through the paths was nice. If you like dogs, there are two very friendly pups. The Australian Shepherd came right up to our tent and played fetch with us in the morning.
We had a great time at Hatu. Great place for sunrises and sunsets as well as stargazing at night. The dogs Blue and Lucy were great hiking companions. We recommend camping at the domes. Robb was very accommodating and we will be back again.
Spacious desert hideaway
Robb is very congenial and Blue and Lucy, his pups, were so friendly and sweet. Super quiet, no traffic noise at all. Saw deer pass thru and many hummingbirds. Bring insect repellent..gnats abound! The outhouse was a little unsavory, and the clutter on the property was a bit off-putting, but this is an ideal spot for a large group campout with a tremendous fire ring pit, and lots of open space to pitch tents or park a camper. . There is also a shady spot in the desert trees and brush, with lovely sage growing abundantly.
Lil Hatu Ranch was not what we expected. It turned out to be basically a junkyard with some campsites in the back. Possibly fine if you find it quirky, but we were with young kids and there was broken glass and other unsafe debris around. The outhouse was one of the worst I've used. There is no running water, just a giant container they truck in from elsewhere, and that area was buzzing with yellowjackets. I'm sure the hosts have the best of intentions but we really cannot recommend this place.
