Upon arriving we noticed that the campsite was very close to the busy highway. We were greeted by an individual who appeared to be on drugs and told us that a lady was at the campsite who wasn't supposed to be there. Everyone in my group agreed that the site looked very sketchy. Neither myself or the others in my group felt safe or comfortable staying at the site so we decided to leave immediately. Don't make the same mistake we did.
There was trash everywhere (most likely from the previous campers) so we called Daniel and he called back 20 minutes later. Considering we were nervous about the known raccoons and bears in the vicinity, we cleaned up the entire campsite including all the half-empty beer cans.
In addition, the proximity to the road made it noisy and difficult to sleep with the headlights shining into the tent throughout the night.
So this place was a huge surprise. I'm ashamed to say I waited till the last minute to reserve it: the pictures don't do this place justice. It's a literally 2 minutes to downtown Nederland, it's easy to find but you'd never notice it without knowing it was there, the driveway is lined with flags, easy parking, had pamphlets waiting for us on things like the museum the downtown area and the local wildlife, the giant tent is a great place to wait out a small storm but personally I set up my rain tent (during a good storm) inside the teepee. There are solar lights that turn on automatically at night, a compost toilet (no point, just head into town! So close), and although the teepee isn't waterproof, it's incredibly resistant to gusts of winds. I only wish I reserved this sooner instead of driving back and forth to filled up campgrounds, so I could've spent more time exploring Nederland. Oh and did I mention privacy? You are technically close to the CO119 but the noise isn't loud and since you are in a switchback, no one can see you. Also, Daniel was very quick in communicating with me making sure I found the site easily. Thanks Daniel!
Great place to stay. We stayed with an 18ft travel trailer which was tight but doable. Daniel came and helped us get in after clearing some branches for our stay. Super nice guy and very helpful. Loved the fire pit and the hammock in the teepee. Even though it's close to the road the noise is minimal. Definitely a rustic camping area. Great home base to explore Nederland with! We had 2 dogs which were welcomed on leash. Will definitely be going back.
This place was awesome!
Booked all three sites at once because we wanted the whole thing to ourselves. It was great. Beautiful site, great fire pit. Spoke with Daniel several times before we booked, great guy.
Quirky, fun spot, some clutter
Quirky, fun spot, perfect for a quick getaway. The highway/cars are not a bother. Plenty of trees to help maintain privacy. Plenty of room. Expect some clutter in the site (tools, chairs, chandelier??), but as long as you know what you’re getting into it’s fine!
