Rustic cabin right in the middle of the Rio Grande National Forest on La Garita Creek. No picture or description can describe the natural beauty that will surround you while you get away from it all - literally. This rustic cabin is accessed by a very rough forest service road and requires 4 wheel drive or atv. There is no running water or electricity although there is a flowing spring steps away and a solar lighting system plus a propane cooktop. There is no cell phone service right at the cabin but can be accessed if you climb up the mountain.
You can hike, bike, 4x4, horseback ride, ATV, etc. up a 4 mile rough forest service road from the trail head where trucks and trailers may be left. The cabin consist of a one room cabin with a queen bed, dining table, propane cook stove, and wood stove. It is connected by a breezeway to the original 1800's cabin that now serves as wood storage or extra campers sleeping area. Another cabin is also attached by the breezeway that has 4 wooden bunks and wood stove. There is a fresh water spring that runs right outside of the cabin and an outhouse. The many acres of grassy area can be used for more tent camping.
La Garita Creek is a fantastic fishing area. Many trails leave from the cabin for hiking or horseback riding.

Staying in this cabin was like going back in time. It is truly a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, and there’s so much to explore. If you love mountain biking or ATVing, then this is your place. There are so many little trails to explore, or you can just hang out by the little creek and relax. Bring a dog if you can—this is dog paradise.
