Hummingbird Mountain is a sanctuary under Mt. Thorodon. We are fully exposed to the Sun from when it rises over the hills which block the city lights to the East, until it sinks below the Continental Divide and puts on a wild display of color throughout the evening sky. We have Mountain Biking and Hiking very close to home in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Roosevelt and Arapaho’s National Forests, and the Indian and James Peak Wilderness Areas. Climbing in Golden Gate Canyon State Park is only a short drive away, as is Boulder Canyon, The Flat Irons, Eldorado Canyon, and Table Mountain. There are tons of hidden spots you can find just exploring the areas around Hummingbird Mountain. On the property, You will find endless rock scrambling, hiking and ohv trails, some decent bouldering, a 19 hole out-and-back disc golf course, horse shoe pits, slack lines, fire pit, there are many hammock hooks already in the trees to easily clip to and soak in the view. There is an old foundation for a structure that was likely an old moonshiners cabin right next to the Yurt. It likely burned down in the early 1900’s based on historical trash. Please be careful of the leftover debris such as glass and nails in this area and do not remove or move anything from/around the site. We are working hard to beautify the area. If you would like to help, let us know so we can all work together towards the same goals! Mornings are cool and crisp as you wait for the first touch of sunshine, but nothing beats watching the warm glow spread across the forest towards you with a nice warm mug of tea in your hammock. A solid stack of firewood is available for $10, but there is a lot of dead wood around camp too for kindling and small fires. If you need more than is provided in the bundle, I would be surprised! Bring your own pillows and sleeping bags OR rent TWO -20*f bags for the duration of your stay! You can do this during checkout under extras/guided tour. There are some blankets and pillows available for relaxing with but won’t keep you cozy all night. Full sized memory foam and futon pads are stacked. Can be separated to make a second bed! An alpine breakfast of Austrian High-Altitude Crépes made from scratch is available for $30 per couple*. You will leave stuffed! Suzette (sweet) style: Nutella, banana, berries, and fresh made whipped cream with powdered sugar. Includes tea, but you might want to bring your own coffee. *Must be booked and communicated at least 24 hours ahead of time. (The good grocery store is far) If you would like to use our sleeping bags, the rental fee is $10/bag cash. We have 6 available. They are washed after each user and the fee helps pay for the good detergents and cleaning time. Two bags can be zipped together to make a giant, double-wide sleeping bag. It’s nice. 15 minutes from Nederland/Rollinsville 35 minutes from Boulder/Golden/Black Hawk/Central Ciry/I70 1:10 (or less) from Denver International Airport

Absolute 5 star experience. The Yurt is incredible, nestled in the top of the mountains with some of the best views of the rockies in Colorado. Sunsets are stunning, the property is buzzing with hummingbirds and Ryan provided everything we needed to have an awesome time. The wood oven in front of the yurt makes the experience really unique and Ryan provided more than enough dry wood to keep us going for 2-3 days. It's quiet, serene and you feel at one with nature, after sunset the stars come out and can be seen across the entire valley, its very special. The yurt is sturdy and keeps you warm at night. We cooked at night with a view of the surrounding National Park. The road to the property is dirt and can be narrow in parts and although not essential I would recommend a slightly off road vehicle. I have already recommended this to multiple friends so book before its booked out! Thank you Ryan

Ryan (the host) helped us start our first fire and showed us how to keep it going overnight. Amazing hostChilling in the Yurt after sunset is awesomeThe fire opens right into the Yurt, its cozy and uniqueThe stars at the campsite are incredible

Our group of 3 decided the best way to say hello to summer was to spend the weekend up in the mountains. Despite being welcomed with a hail storm and snow flurries by Mother Nature, the fire in the stove next to the yurt ensured we were cozy all weekend long. Inside the yurt are a few foam pads and pillows making for a pretty comfy night’s sleep (as well as a few lanterns, crazy creeks and water). Nothing beats waking up to the view you’ll be greeted with each morning (rain or shine). Make sure you explore the property and find all the secrets it offers—the perfect sunset spot, boulders to climb, a disc golf course and more. A short walk from the yurt, you’ll find a picnic table with a small camping stove, if you should need it. So much nearby to explore but we ended up exploring the area near Gross Reservoir. Before we rolled out on Sunday morning, Ryan (our host) made us some crepes and I have a feeling that I’ll be thinking about that homemade whipped cream for quite some time. It was a gem of a weekend. Thanks for everything, Ryan.

The yurt is downhill and secluded from the main house but still a quick walk to the car for anything that might be stored up top. Inside the yurt are some foam pads that help keep you cozy throughout the night. Ryan (the host) helped us get the fire lit and got us some dry wood after a rainy day. This little stove will keep you warm despite some colder temps (it was in the 30s at night during our stay).

Ryan was a great host. The site had an amazing view! The stove outside the yurt kept us warm most the night. It’s closer to houses than we thought, but you could never tell. It felt like being in the middle of the wilderness. Very great place to stay.

Talk about the most spectacular views! This place takes some back roads to get to, but truly has the most incredible view of the range I’ve ever seen! The yurt was spacious and kept us dry in the rain! The coolest part is the little stove they have set up right outside the yurt. It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before, having a fire while being in the tent. The property was just full of views and there were acres to explore!
Ryan was such an amazing host, gave us a tour of the whole property, brought our stuff down to yurt, gave us sleeping pads, and let us rent sleeping bags. When we had questions about the range, he pulled out a telescope and showed us each mountain! He was extremely knowledgeable and when we forgot our eggs, he was kind enough to give us some of his own.
I don’t have enough wonderful things to say and we can not wait to come back!

This yurt was awesome! We weren't quite sure what to expect when we arrived, but we definitely were not disappointed. In case it's not super clear, the yurt is part of the hosts property; the good thing is it's set down far enough that you kinda forget the house is up on the hill - the yurt is hidden enough away that I don't think the house can see you, and you can barely see the house. The yurt was so roomy - we were able to fit our queen size pad and our dogs crate and our bags with still more room, which came in handy when it started raining during our dinner and we had to move everything inside. The wood burning oven right outside of the yurt entrance was the best part! We loved turning in the for the night and making a fire which also warmed up the inside of the yurt - it was quite romantic :)

The "eating" area is set down a small hill from the yurt - it was a great area to make breakfast and dinner and just enjoy the amazing views and sounds of the outdoors. There is a new-looking wood picnic table and Ryan had a stove and a grill set out which was super handy, a couple pots and pans and a small cooler and bear locker.

We met Ryan on our second night and he was very friendly and accommodating.

The only downside - which is more of a "maybe i'm just lazy" downside - is that you have to park up by the house, and the yurt and eating area are down a pretty steep and long hill and you have to carry everything down and then back up when you leave. Since we have a yeti cooler which already weighs a ton - even when empty - carrying that down and up the hill was not my favorite thing. However, Ryan did mention he has an ATV he can use to help with your stuff, so definitely inquire about that if you want.

All in all we had a great stay at Ryan's yurt and I have already sent the link to some friends to check out. I can say we will probably be back one day - you really couldn't beat the views from this place!

Hey Kelsey, glad to hear you all enjoyed it! When I saw your cooler I was like shooooot I wish I was there to help them move it. Sorry life got a little crazy for me during your few days here. Going forward, I’m going to try to intercept new campers so that heavy loads aren’t a burden! Thanks for staying, and for passing the word on!

My stay with Ryan was great! All the information he provided made my trip exactly as expected. The property is awesome and the yurt was great. I am 6'1" and could stand up normally around the tallest parts, just to give perspective. Two people, a dog and all our stuff fit just fine even leaving extra space. Wood burning stove was great as a fire ban was in effect when we arrived, which he communicated before my trip. One day of my trip it rained for hours and the yurt kept us dry. Only recommendations I would make, don't forget bug spray and maybe bring something for extra shade. It is a little work to get your stuff to and from the yurt, but it's perfectly manageable and he even offered to help with anything heavy. You'll have basically everything you need to cook, a yeti cooler was provided, tempurpedic pad was comfortable for two people and make sure to check storage bins in the yurt because he provides a lot of little extra stuff(lighters, Yahtzee, playing cards, etc). Would highly recommend and would stay again!

Spectacular views! Ryan was an enthusiastic host who joined us in a game of frisbee golf on his incredible 10-hole course. We enjoyed his crepe breakfast (you might have to bring your own coffee or juice) and chatting with him as he cooked. The yurt and cooking area were well equipped including games and lanterns. The only downside was the volley of shots for hours in the valley as we were trying to take in the peace and quiet and the extraordinary views. It was an experience!

Ryan is a great host and is adding amenities regularly. This yurt is cozy with a wood burning stove just outside. The kitchen is well equipped and the 180 degree view of the Rocky mountains is amazing. We took advantage of Ryan’s crepe breakfast which was super tasty. Will definitely go back!
