A wonderful wilderness adventure awaits, regardless of season.... but before booking, please browse details to make sure this listing is right for your adventure. We want all our guests to be educated about the property.

In summer, most guests will want to hike about 2.5 miles (or more depending on the choice of trails) to the site, as the hike is beautiful, and the drive is best reserved for motorbikes, atvs, or 4wd jeeps with big tires, lockers, and winches. In winter (Nov 20th - May 20th), access is by over-snow vehicles such as snowmobiles (with proper experience), backcountry skis (with proper experience), snowshoes, or some combination. Expect 10.5 - 11+ miles of over-snow transport Guests booking around the start / end dates of the season can check with host about current conditions as these are USFS guidelines and depend on conditions.

This listing is for your choice one of two sites right at the junction of trees, meadows, and talus with the right blend of privacy and views. There are two good tent sites, depending on what you would like (and if you arrive first, when both are booked).

Over 11k in elevation. Please consider renting our cabin (see next listing) if available unless you are experienced with tent camping in the mountains.

There are flat spots ready for your tent, or for an additional cost you can borrow our gear including sleeping bags and pads for up to four, and tent. You must bring your own hut bag or sleeping bag liner if you borrow our bags- a sheet folded in half and sewn together works well. This is the only place anywhere nearby with amenities, and literally stones throw from the Holy Cross Wilderness, where you will find lakes, peaks, streams, and rocks galore.

This is a unique opportunity to stay in a special place. Our cabin makes for an excellent base in winter, while in summer or fall sleeping outdoors under the stars at the tentsite is an excellent choice.

I had a great time staying at HCR. Ben was very thorough in his information and was great with communication leading up to and after my stay. I decided to take the Fancy Creek trail to the site. It was a bit of a hike and took me about 4 hours with my gear, but I highly recommend it. It is a bit of elevation gain, so be prepared.
