Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Our family decided to create our own campsites to travel and enjoy! Roaming Wild Hideaways has campsites located in Minnesota, Florida, and Colorado! Learn more about this land: Roaming Wild Hideaways - Hidden in Hartsel campsite is located in the heart of Colorado in a mountain prairie with beautiful views and pine trees for privacy. You will have mountain views to the east and even a peak view of Mt Silverheels to the northwest, a 13,829-foot thirteener located in Pike National Forest. At the top of the hill/rv/stargazing site, you also can see Spinney Reservoir in the distance. We also have Wild Things Nature Playground for the kids- with a swing, teeter totter, fort, and balancing course! Let their imaginations run wild! A horseshoe pit is also on site! There is a cooking fire pit located in the pine tree tenting area and a propane fire pit (please bring your own propane) located in the open prairie tent/rv site. Walk around the 5.65 acres and look for fossils, arrowheads, agates, and petrified wood! Beautiful wild flowers also bloom across the field, so please only drive on designated driveway and parking areas! Currently this is listed as one site for the whole 5 acres, you can choose whether you want to be out in the prairie or hidden in the pines or use both areas! The central location of the campsite makes adventuring throughout Colorado easy! The city of Hartsel is just a short 10 minute drive down the mountain where you will find a gas station, grocery store, coffee and rock shop, and a restaurant/bar. Located just under 30 minutes is the popular Eleven Mile State Park where you can hike, fish, bike, picnic, kayak and paddle. There is a playground and marina where you can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and boats. They also have coin operated showers and laundry on site. My kids loved parking by the Coyote Ridge Nature Trail and hiking towards the Backcountry Campsites where they would cliff jump off of the big boulders! The water is cool, but refreshing! Eleven Mile Canyon State Recreation Area is also nearby. Also just under 30 minutes is Spinney Mountain State Park with great fishing! And the popular "Dream Stream" where fishing is said to be spectacular! Antero Reservoir is also another fishing option close by. To the northwest, Fairplay, Colorado is just a short 30 minute drive. This fun mountain town is home to the famous South Park tv show and features a museum. It also has a gold prospecting area at Fairplay Beach Park, and for a minimal $10 fee, you can try your hand at panning or sluicing for gold! Fishing is also great here and there are picnic areas as well. Breckenridge is also about an hour away with plenty of hiking, mountain views, and tourist attractions in the popular ski town! Also fun for kids-see if you can find the gigantic troll! Mueller State Park is about 45 minutes east and is a beautiful area for hiking and a great pit stop if you are headed to Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs should not be missed, with Garden of the Gods and many other hidden gems! Check out Red Mountain Open Space park nearby for quieter crowds! Colorado Springs is an hour fifteen and the closest Walmart is in Woodland Park, about 50 minutes away in the same direction. Denver is about 2 hours north. There are so many areas to explore and enjoy within a couple hours from camp! Hartsel is named after being in the heart of Colorado. It is a great location to set up camp and explore the state in all directions! We hope you enjoy the mountains and views as much as we do! And please remember to abide by current fire regulations of Park County and pack out everything to keep it enjoyable for others!

Eric was very responsive whenever I messaged him. The camp site is very accessible and I had cell service there.

Perfect Fall Camping!
Beautiful location with so much to offer! We absolutely loved this camping spot. The views from the top of the hill were spectacular in every direction, and our boys loved exploring in the wooded area down by the shed. Our pup also loved the free roaming! We will absolutely book again!!

It was a lovely location nestled right in the mountains. The two campsites provided a variety in a way that you could camp in the open or under some trees. Would definitely camp again.

We had a great time here, peaceful, secluded in the trees on the back of the property. Easy to find. If i had one complaint it would be the entrance. If you are pulling a trailer do not even try to use the 2nd entrance that has the culvert pipe. It's not near wide enough to swing into. The first entrance is much wider, but has a deep dip in it so your trailer is most likely going to hit underneath in there. Besides this small quirk it's an awesome place to camp and take the family. We will be returning for sure. Thanks.

Happy in Hartsel!
I hesitate to review this site because how awesome it is. Eric the Host was great in that he was so helpful and answered all my texts immediately. The directions were good and the site easy to find. The campsite itself was awesome. I was the only one there and you have a choice of two spots, one out in the open with some nice views of the mountains and a propane firepit and another further back in a group of trees that was more private and shaded. I decided to stay in among the trees, where there was a wood fire pit. There was also a lockable shack with a table & chairs that came in handy. There was also a bathroom area. It was basically a toilet stand but surrounded by a makeshift shelter so much better than going in the bushes! Little touches like this just made for a nicer overall experience. The road to get to the site was easily driven by my subcompact. The site was clean and private. I didn't see any other people and only heard some dogs barking in hte distance and what I think was a donkey/mule braying but never saw any animals except for birds. The site was convenient to 11 Mile Reservoir, where I drove to go kayaking. It was about a half hour away. I love that I had the site all to myself. It was quiet and enjoyable. I will definitely come back. It's so hard to find affordable, quiet and solitary camping on a weekend and I was so grateful and happy to have a relaxing two nights here. Thank you Eric for making my camping experience awesome.
