Special spot in the high mountains!
Our campground host, Jon, was very informative about the area, local history, flowers, fauna, and the wildlife. The mountain views are spectacular and the nighttime stars filled every inch of the sky! Definitely looking forward to many return trips to this location!
We loved the secluded tent site next to the pond and gurgling brook. We set up our food prep table on the other side of the stream and had shade both morning and evening. The view from the fire pit of the surrounding mountains was spectacular! Jon pointed the way to a lovely stroll from his property and also gave us a great recommendation to hike around Cataract Lake, which is stunning. We also enjoyed taking little jaunts around Jon's pond in the canoe and kayaks. We were entertained by the goats and Jon was attentive to the billy goat's whereabouts. It helped that we brought our own little potty set-up. It is a working ranch so you'll have to wend you way past a fair bit of equipment when you arrive, but none of that is visible from the campsite. Jon was a gracious host and we recommend Camphand Ranch for anyone looking for a unique experience.
John was a spectacular host from start to finish and we can't recommend booking him enough.
We booked last minute and surprised him as he was working on building a waterfall, but dropped everything to make sure we were accommodated. With ample sites to choose from, we picked a secluded area near the beach while our friends went with a patch near the fire. He even took time to explain to us where the winds would be coming from in the evening before we set up camp.
There were a number of kayaks and canoes to choose from to take out on the small pond which made for an afternoon's worth of entertainment. His goats are the best (just make sure you're not leaving food out!) and made it feel like a real farm experience. He even brought us down some fresh sweet corn from the local market. Can't wait to head back!
Mountain farm life
We had a fantastic time and would definitely stay again! My girls had such a blast playing with the goats, especially the babies! When they weren't playing with farm animals they were paddling around the pond in kayaks. Great exposure to life on a farm!
A great "working" experience for my 10 year old son. Also, a lesson learned...don't get in between a billy goat and his food. He will push you out of the way. Make sure the kids understand how goats behave. Jon will educate as needed.
My family (2 adults, 2 kids ages 4 and 6) had a very fun time staying here. The kids loved playing with the chickens and goats! Plus, there are many beautiful places to explore nearby. Jon, the host, is as friendly as it gets. We definitely plan to visit again!
