Covid update..... We are open for campers who want to help with the farm chores. Our animals don't care about Covid-19. They still need to be fed and cared for. As far as hiking, it would include bringing the goats along to feed on the brush. So it is a slow walk and perhaps just sitting and talking in the scenery while the jaws are munching around you. And of course the occasional head but or flying kid that the older goats send sailing. 🤠 Or you can bring a hoe and loppers and help clear the trail along the ditch. So if you want a great place to isolate and sit by a real campfire, give Camphand a try. This is a different type of Hipcamp. We are an off-grid camper spot in the middle of Summit County. Our 21 acres backs to the National Forest so you have 220 square miles of wilderness area within a brisk hike or snowshoe trek in winter. Our camping area is next to our pond fed by the crystal waters of the Blue River. In winter it is your personal skating pond. We are spitting distance of Boulder Creek Canyon, Class IV whitewater. Bring your raft when the water runs high!

Here is the catch: to camp on my land you have to be a livestock tender by County Code. So you will be required to spend some time tending livestock. What would that mean? Yesterday for me it was feeding the chickens and collecting eggs. I worked on fencing to keep the goat out of the hemp planting. I have to put fence around my tree planting to keep them from eating the bark in winter. Sometimes it is taking the pack goat for a hike. You may have to clear the ditch of debris, or fix a fence. Or if you are a zen beekeeper, you could help me with the beehive. Maybe we can figure out how to get some honey from that thing. We can tailor your farm activity and limit the time involved to allow for plenty of time for you to discover the mountain paradise.

If you are hesitant to camp with a new listing, check out our other Hipcamp experience at South Park Forest and Plains. We were voted #6 in Colorado in 2018 as the best camping site.

We will tailor this farm stay to your ability and liking. Your accommodations will be a 1998 Lance slide in camper with sleeping for four (or five with the fold down bunk) and a full kitchen and bathroom. There is a solar shower and the camper runs on solar energy. The camper is located next to the pond and there are kayaks, a canoe and a raft you can paddle around the pond. We can consider you bringing your own RV.

We offer most of the day for your recreation and there is a lot of it around. We are located 10 miles north of Lake Dillon. For hiking, Acorn Creek Trailhead is within walking distance and Columbine Trailhead is across the river.

This has been a tree farm for the past 25 years and a ranch for the past 100. There are various pieces of heavy equipment and other potentially dangerous hazards such as log piles and boulder piles. So if you have curious children that cannot be controlled, this is not the camp for you. There is an irrigation ditch crossing my property and the machinery and such is on the other side of the ditch so if that rule to stay out of that area works, bring on the kids and they will enjoy what we have to offer. If looking is the best activity, the marmots sunning themselves on the piles of logs and boulders are quite entertaining.

There are several hundred newly planted trees in the field. One activity for potential campers is making cuttings of cottonwood trees we will plant into the field.

Send a message if you would like to stay and maybe help out a bit. We can plan an adventure that helps our farm animals and gives you a great place to center for all that Summit County has to offer.

Beautiful setting with a pond and snow capped mountains as the view. Camper needs some plumbing improvements & working refrigerator that the host is working on and warned us about. We enjoyed tending to the goats and chickens - except for a feisty male goat that roamed the property and we always needed to carry a stick and keep an eye out for his aggression. It was manageable, and he was fun to take on a walk, just couldn’t quite relax because of him. There is a lot of “stuff” on the property which makes it look junky - but the great view from the camper made that easy to ignore. Jon was a wealth of information on the area and on farming - and directed us to some beautiful nearby hikes! We enjoyed our stay.

Jon has carved out a lil slice of Heaven. The kids enjoyed kayaking around in the pond and collecting Chicken eggs, we enjoyed sharing the camp fire with our host and hearing a little bit about his Adventures and time in Summit County. The Goats were fun as well, the Billy goat was a tad aggressive but Jon put him on a rope even though he had raised from a baby and you can tell they have a bond. Have an open mind re first impression of the property, when you first drive into the property it looks like a Surplus Yard as he said ahead of time he has lots of old Tree farm gear and old equipment on the upper or entrance of his 20 acres. AND the lower half of the property is absolutely stunning. The Stars and the views of the valley are incredible. Jon always had firewood for us to burn in the fire ring as long as we wanted. The pond is clean and there is fresh eater running through the property. We had a great time and hope to return soon.

Jons camp was fun! We took the goats on a little walk and hung out, unfortunately it rained and snowed before our visit so it was extremely muddy and wet. The camper was decent, my only complaint is that the thermostat was a little janky and there was no water, so washing our hands after a muddy goat trip was a challenge. Over all, we had a good experience and will definitely go back!
