Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is just a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.)
The property has flat areas for easy tent setup, and also gently sloping and wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. PLEASE NOTE: Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you must have a vehicle with a toilet in it.
If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp just up the road so give them a wave!

This unspoiled land was the perfect camping spot to watch the Perseid meteor shower. The sky was so clear and dark that we could actually see the Milky Way! There was no noise except the sound of coyotes, and the ocasional owl. Eric was a fantastic host. He kept in touch with me before and after our trip, and was a trove of information about local activities and towns. I highly recommend visiting this campsite to anyone who will respect the beauty and peace that is to be found here.
Wow, what a beautiful area and piece of property! My friend and I (and two pups) had a fantastic stay. The views are absolutely amazing and we felt totally secluded. The last bit of the road is a little rough but we had no problem even with one lower clearance vehicle. We setup camp not too far off of the road so you could walk in if needed. There are several fire rings setup and ready for use! Communication with Eric was also a breeze. Would highly recommend this slice of heaven to anyone looking to get away from it all!

The roads in are pretty serious washboard for 10 miles and then the final turn onto the property goes up a hill and would best be done with AWD or 4WD. Views are great though!

Thanks, Maegen and Matt! It's true about the roads ... they are county-maintained but unpaved, so the condition can vary depending on weather and when the grader last came through. I have made the trip several times in an ordinary Honda Fit but it's slow going. I used to have a 2000 CR-V which would have been perfect because of its high clearance.
Room to Road has gorgeous views. Make sure you have a vehicle that can handle washboard, and at times a rough approach road.
This is a beautiful piece of property! We drove our Highlander and pop up camper and didn't have any issues with the roads at all. We camped on Labor Day weekend and had no neighbors. We do a lot of dispersed camping and are used to packing in and out. This land is immaculate. There is no trash, broken glass, previous camper's toilet paper, etc that you would find in the BLM land. The views of the Collegiate Peaks and the sunsets are amazing! We had a lot of fun exploring the aspen grove and climbing the rocks. This is a great place to camp and we will definitely be back!

Thanks for sharing your impressions, Jamie! It's true, Hipcamp guests have been great and have never left any debris behind.
This campsite is beautiful and very well secluded. Only one car passed our campsite all day/night. The directions are very clear and it is easy to get too. Some people might disagree but this seemed easy in comparison to other remote locations in Colorado I have tried to find. The land is wide open with beautiful views. The fire pits are not far off the road. We went for a night in November and it got down to about 18 degrees. We woke up to a layer of frost covering everything but the sun came out quickly and warmed us up. This seems like a good spot for the later fall or earlier in the spring camping seasons because it is at a bit lower of an elevation than many places in Colorado but also affords sweeping mountain views. I would highly recommend this site. I hope that people who visit will take care of it properly and keep it clean so that the host continues allowing people to stay here. We will absolutely be back.

I admire your cold-weather camping skills, Tom! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Great location! Easy to find and beautiful views. Eric is a wealth of knowledge and super helpful too.

Glad the weather cooperated! Thanks for visiting, Christina.
The place was amazing!! Plenty of room to explore and have fun. It was a tad bit windy mid afternoon but didn’t last too long perfect time to take a nap! Sunsets was breathtaking. Thanks for a great escape.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, Tabitha! Thanks for visiting and thanks for writing.
This was one of the most beautiful campsites that we have stayed at!! The sunsets are spectacular and the star viewing is amazing. Thank you, Eric! We had a great time :) I highly recommend this property.
