Heavenly spot
We stayed here for three nights. It was such a peaceful and relaxing spot! John and Wendy were the perfect hosts: activity tips, delicious coffee ready for us every morning, indoor bathroom and shower. The site was close enough to the house for convenient access to the bathroom and shower but far enough for privacy. Could hear the ocean at night. Provided us wood for fire. Had chairs and a table with fresh flowers. Definitely luxury camping.
We also had the pleasure to hang out with Louie, such a sweet dog and feed Bob the Emu.
Close to the beach and town.
Cannot wait to camp there again.

This was a wonderful retreat for our family. My kids adored the animals. Very clean and peaceful. John and Wendy were so gracious, letting us use their bathroom, washer and dryer, sink to wash dishes. They even provided fresh coffee every morning and homemade baguettes one evening. We would return in a heartbeat. Thank you John and Wendy!

Wonderful stay! Wendy and John could not have been more gracious. I hope we can get back to Wuss Camp soon!
We loved our stay at Wuss Camp. The campground was perfect for our 2-night stay. Plenty of room and privacy. The added benefit of having a bathroom and sink made our trip very comfortable. Site is a short drive to Centerville Beach, Trinidad, and Eureka. Overall great place to stay!
Wendy’s place was the perfect place to take our three year old twins on their first camping experience! It is very private and we loved Louie(calmest dog ever) and Bob the Emu. There is a beach a mile away that is awesome and very easy to isolate at. There is a also a great hike just up the hill passed the beach down a bluff. We had an awesome time and would gladly come back again.
We had a delightful and relaxing stay at Wendy and John’s. Their location is quiet, safe and clean. It is near the ocean so you can hear the waves at night as well as enjoy the bird songs in the morning. The camp site is near the house in case you need anything. We would recommend this site as it is beautiful, calm, and within a reasonable drive to the Redwood National and State Parks.
As seasoned campers, my sister and I were not prepared for how easy Wuss Camping would be. It turned out to be the most pleasant and perfect way to experience camping with my niece, (our three-year old birthday girl) and her dad (a first time camper) as our hosts had conveniently thought of everything and most of what I brought along was unnecessary. All you really need is warm and cozy clothing, a tent and comfy sleeping bag and your food! Hosts had set out travel guides, nature identification booklets, games, gifts, hot beverages, plenty of firewood, starters and lighter, and allowed use of their ample dishwashing station, their adorable and tidy bathroom with warm shower and fluffy towels, (their washer and dryer if we'd needed it), and of course their delicious spring water. Since there's a pandemic they had hand sanitizer and lysol wipes set out for us so we could wipe down the handles of the doors after use and keep things spruced up. It was nice to be able to camp without having to share restrooms with a whole campground of people, as aside from our lovely hosts, we were the only folks around. We completely loved having their gentle doggo, Louie, keep us company. He brought his ball for games of fetch and entertained us with his comical bounding through the high grasses out in the meadow. The emu, also gentle, was so fun to listen to with his low rumbles and to feed chunks of green apple. There were NO mosquitos in July! which is an experience I've never had camping in California before (but there are plenty inland along the Eel River, so take your repellent if plan to spend any part of your evening there). I loved looking up through my tent window and the branches of an old apple tree to see stars twinkling overhead and being awoken in the morning by the sound of abundant birdlife. The meadow across the bridge was full of tiny wildflowers (perfect picnic and playground) and their yard was fairly bursting with colorful blooms. One of the most special experiences was getting to meet a new-to-me species of bird--the Canada or Grey Jay. There were three juveniles (the dark brown ones) and three adults (pretty, soft grey and white birds). They were all incredibly tame, but the babies were the most fearless and would fly down to sit on our shoulders or knees or take food from our palms. We felt like Disney Princesses in a movie! They even came to check us out on the swing set and sat on the handles of the duo glider while we were on it! The ocean is clearly audible from the camp ground and we loved falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves, but you are entirely protected from the high winds of the beach nestled in the forest as we were. We recommend planning to drive to the beach, not walk, as the road is narrow and cars go fast. The beach allows A LOT of freedom--ATV's, fishing, fires, dogs. The town is adorable, but fairly closed down because of the pandemic (and be sure to bring your masks as they are required at gas stations, in grocery stores or any other indoor space you may need to enter) so we spent most of our time in nature exploring the redwoods, enjoying the river, playing at Firemen's park, rolling around in the sandy dunes at the beach and just strolling the lovely countryside. You will not regret a lovely getaway to this priceless gem. Thank you so much, John and Wendy, for your great work providing such a comfortable place for families to visit and revel in the wonder of your community!
