The vibe at WindTree Vista
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The Wind Tree was such a cool experience. We arrived in the night and were amazed at how well we could see the stars and the Milky Way! We stayed in the Cob Cottage and got a great nights sleep. We met the host and the other people working there in the morning. They were so nice and showed us around the property. There are so many cool little areas to explore at this location including their time travel capsule, peace pole, and outdoor swimming hole. We even got to take a quick refreshing dip in the morning. We spent some time in the main lodge making some tunes with some instruments from their music corner too. Such a nice morning, we're already planning when we can come back!
The Goddess Cob House was a delightful stay. Artistic interiors, comfortable bed, and a well drawing fireplace to while away the evening.
The cob house is in a more built-up part of the property but its charm more than makes up for that.
We took the goats for a walk, enjoyed the sunset up on the ridge line with views spanning the entire coast line, and were lucky enough to be there during a butterfly migration season.
The tent site also looks great (private, secluded, with uninterrupted views and a fireplace), although we didn't stay there.
Wind Tree is amazing! We stayed in the Cobb House and enjoyed the incredible ocean views and great vibes of this permaculture farm. The Cobb House is located amongst a cluster of buildings on the farm. We really enjoyed sunset from the Peace Pole, reading books by the fireplace in the Cobb House, and going on a walk with the goats. If you're coming from San Francisco I suggest going the "long" way along the ocean, it's worth it. Elena our host was wonderful and I feel lucky we found this spot!
WindTree Vista was one of the coolest experiences camping under the night sky. You can actually see the Milkyway with naked eye!
My trip was literally last-minute and I must say I really got lucky with this spot. Elena and the volunteers have done a fabulous job with the property and I can't wait to be back again!
Our night at WindTree Vista was great! Elena sent us detailed driving instructions which were key because google maps could only get us so far/ we lost service throughout the final part of the drive.
Elena met us as we drove in and showed us to our campground. The property is very interesting- it’s a working WWOOFing farm. We met the goats and briefly met the wwoofers who were very nice and friendly, mostly international young adults.
Our campsite (#1) was the best on the property.
It felt isolated and had beautiful sweeping views of Santa Cruz down to Monterey. There was an outdoor toilet, a fire pit, a picnic table and a hose with non-drinkable water (good for a body rinse). It was very hot and dusty when we arrived, but as soon as the sun began to set we began to truly enjoy the campsite. The stars were unbelievable and we were able to see Mars! Overall a great experience.
Unique spot in the mountains with amazing views from Monterey to Santa Cruz. Host was super helpful and friendly. The grounds are super quirky and whimsical, and goats are friendly. Description says you don’t need 4-wheel drive, but it is a bit rough if you don’t have a high clearance vehicle. Summit Store has last minute items, but at a premium price.
WindTree Vista is an incredible site within an even more incredible space. The campsite is extremely spacious, flat, and clean... with a jaw-dropping view. The picnic table with umbrella, hammock, benches, fire ring, compost toilet with toilet paper, and time capsule all add to the feeling of being cared for. And the site is very private, far enough away from everything else on the property to know you're not causing disturbance.
Elena was the perfect host - stopping by to say hello and check if we needed anything, but also not overly involved. We knew where to find her if we needed anything at all, and her personality was such that we would have felt comfortable asking!
As an active permaculture farm, the ongoing projects and volunteers give the environment a sense of vibrant, community-driven, sustainable creativity. The WWOOF volunteers stopped by the site, but only to check if we had seen two goats on the loose. We invited them to play a board game with us.
This was my first Hipcamp experience, and i am not sure i could find a better scenario. Thank you to Elena and her family for being so flexible and gracious when they had so much else going on. Forever grateful! And we'll be back!
